The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has said that the police will treat members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) as terrorists.

Adamu said this on Tuesday at the monthly conference with senior police officers in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had last Friday proscribed the group and directed the Federal Government to publish it in two national dailies.

Adamu said Shiites “will be treated like terrorists and enemies of state” and prosecuted under the Terrorism Act, including anyone associating with them in any way that could advance their activities in the country.

He added that “all forms of procession or protest by IMN is now illegal and thus banned”.

The Shiites as Buhari suggests are a threat to the country but how really big a threat?

One just has to take a look at Lebanon to understand the threat they pose

Some have argued that because the El Zaki who what ever they call his name has a personal security outfit means they pose a threat.

In Lebanon, the Shiites have hezbollah (The Party of God). Though it has a well armed militant wing, it has never been a threat to the country.

A lady called hezbollah, "A state within a non-state"- in reference to their legendary discipline that they have. Despite the Shiites accounting for 27% of the country's population, they've neither proven to be a threat or destabilizing force.

An exaggeration of a threat is more often worse than the threat itself.

What do you mean hasn't known peace for decades? The Lebanese civil war ended in 1991 if I'm correct. So, for over 27 years, there's been no war except the Isreali attacks in Beirut after the kidnap of 2 Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah. That was in 2006.

Lebanon has many sects and that's what divides the country. There are at least 14 known sects from the Shias, Sunni's,Maronite Christians, Druze, Alawites to the existence of up to 400,000 Palestinian refugees and 1.5m Syrian refugees. That's why ruling this country is difficult.

The democratic process accommodated all these sects but at great cost to the country. Nothing ever gets done because they have weak and powerless coalitions which always leads to an impasse.

The Shias are not to blame.
