Good morning guys. A quick one please. I bought a Honda Accord 2007 (Nigerian used) for my babe four months ago. The car is now due for servicing and when I asked the previous owner which oil he was using, he said Mobil XHP which is 20w50. The manual of the car however says the recommended oil is 5w20. I hope it wont cause any issue if I now start using the 5w20 especially since the previous owner who used the car for about 3 years used 20w50 all through.

There won't be issues, if you switched back to the synthetic. Where I'd be concerned is the state of the engine internals presently. If your car is a high mileage one, which translates to gradual engine wear and tear already, I bet you, using that oil, might cause seal leaks(oil shortages). But if you insists using the synthetic, buy a high mileage synthetic oil. I think Mobil1 has them.

You should have given him a clue on which Mobil 1 that is 5w20. Except for the US Mobil 1, there's no oil sold openly that has 5w20. Look for good ones.

U can switch without any problem. I switched from 20w50 to 5w20 in my 2007 Honda accord about 3yrs ago and I never had any issues. Also, there was no leakage anywhere. The engine oil does not short even when I service at long intervals (every 15000km or 1yr which ever comes first). I use dura max fully synthetic oil and it has performed excellently so far.
