They pretend like they are trying to clean the chip on your debit card. That is when they do the swapping.

You proceed to punch the "wrong pin" into the machine.

It retracts the card.

It is either a weekend or evening, so nothing can be done till the next working day.

You have to go home.

Mind you, he watched you punch in your correct PIN, albeit for the wrong card.

He proceeds to another ATM, armed with your debit card and PIN.
