3 Typical Signals Of A Defective Intake Manifold Gasket by Godspower35(m): 8:56pm On Aug 04, 2019
The intake manifold seals are some of the most important seals of an engine. The seals are placed between engine components prior to assembly to ensure a reliable seal. They can be made of paper, rubber, metal and sometimes a combination of the three materials.

The intake manifold seals are responsible for sealing the intake manifold against the cylinder head. In addition to sealing the engine vacuum, certain designs also seal the engine coolant. If the intake manifold seals
have a problem, they can cause driving problems and even overheating of the engine. As a rule, a defective intake manifold gasket leads to some symptoms that may alert the driver to a potential problem.

1.
Engine Misfires and power reduces, acceleration and fuel consumption

One of the most common symptoms of an intake manifold gasket problem is engine performance issues. When the vehicle reaches mileage, the intake manifold gaskets may wear and possibly leak. This can lead to significant performance problems as the intake manifold seals the vacuum and pressure of the engine. A vacuum leak caused by a poor intake manifold gasket can compromise the air-fuel ratio of the engine and cause engine performance issues such as misfires, power loss and acceleration, fuel efficiency reduction, and even stalling.

2.
Coolant escapes

Another symptom of a faulty intake manifold seal is coolant leakage. Some intake manifold seals also seal the engine coolant. If the gasket wears, it may cause a coolant leak. This can produce a significant coolant odor, along with vapor and drops or puddles of coolant under the vehicle. Coolant leaks should be resolved as soon as possible to prevent them from becoming a major problem.

3.
Engine overheated

Engine overheating is another symptom of a potential problem with the intake manifold seals. A coolant leak eventually leads to overheating of the engine if the coolant level is too low. However, it may happen that overheating occurs without visible leaks. If the intake manifold gaskets leak coolant into the intake manifold, the engine may overheat without visible external leakage. Any coolant leaks should be remedied as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of serious engine damage due to a defective intake manifold gasket.

POINTS TO NOTE:
If you notice any of these signs listed above there is every tendency that the intake manifold gasket is faulty,in order to prevent further problem consult a qualified mechanic.
