4 Typical Signs Of A Defective AC Compressor In Your Car by Godspower35(m): 1:28am On Oct 25, 2019
Every air conditioning system in a vehicle depends on a constant flow of refrigerant. With this refrigerant, the air conditioner can produce the cool air that comes out of the ventilation slots in the dashboard. The only way that this refrigerant can continue to function properly is through a component called an air-conditioning compressor, also known as an AC compressor. This component creates a pressure that pushes the refrigerant and allows it to flow smoothly.
As long as the AC compressor remains operational, a stable, cool stream of air should exit from the vents. But like everything else, an AC compressor can fail.

There are some warning signals that will be displayed if your AC compressor becomes poor. Below are 4 common symptoms listed;

1.
Strange sounds

If you turn on your air conditioner and you hear strange sounds, your AC compressor will probably fail. The compressor relies on a sealed bearing and numerous other components to rotate. If the inner bearings or components are damaged or worn, the compressor may find it difficult to function properly. Strange sounds will only be the beginning of the problem. For this reason, you should take this symptom as a leading indicator for having to replace your AC compressor.

2.
Hot air from the vents

If you turn on your air conditioner and even after a few minutes, hot air comes out of the ventilation slots, this is a clear indication that your air conditioning compressor fails. If the refrigerant can not circulate through the air conditioner due to a defective compressor, the desired cool air will not be generated. As a result, you have hot air instead. This can be a step-by-step process where you first feel the cool air getting a little warmer. After a while, the air reaches a point where it is completely hot without any coolness.

3.
Leaking liquid

The AC compressor has its own internal bearings that prevent liquid from leaking while pressurizing the refrigerant. However, if these bearings become worn or damaged, liquid can easily escape through them. You need to replace the bearings instead of repairing them.

4.
AC compressor clutch jams

The AC compressor has its own clutch, which is connected to the engine via a pulley. This allows the compressor to use the engine power only when it is needed. If the clutch is stuck or completely blocked, it can not transfer power from the engine to the compressor. In most cases you will not be able to repair the clutch even if it is so stuck. You only have the opportunity to replace it.
