President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Sen. Ita Enang has enjoined State Governments, particularly those in the southern part of the country to make land available for smooth take-off of RUGA cattle settlement programme. Furthemore, he disclosed that the National Assembly had already budgeted over N2 billion for the implementation of the scheme.

He made the call in Abuja when he hosted Students of Law School Abuja from Akwa Ibom. Enang is the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate).

Enang said the need for the governors to toe this path had become imperative. This is in view of the fact that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development had earmarked N2.258 billion. The sum has been set aside for the implementation of the RUGA scheme.

The presidential aide explained that the first RUGA programmes were the Obudu Cattle Ranch and the Yankari Games Reserve. Furthermore, he revealed that in places like the North, earth dams were constructed to cater for cattle. In addition, he noted that there was a yearly allocation for the continuous funding of grazing areas.

Moreover, President Buhari’s aide poured cold water on suggestions that the RUGA scheme was targeted at seizing people’s lands.

“The word – ‘RUGA’ is not derived from Hausa or Fulani. But an acronym for Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) initiated in 1956 during the colonial era. It is not intended to islamise, fulanize or colonise anybody.

“RUGA is not a plan to seize land from people neither is it meant to fulanize or colonize anybody. The programme is meant to address the issue of cattle roaming and destruction of farmland which would put an end to the herders/farmers crisis.”

Enang, Buhari’s aide, says National Assembly in support of RUGA scheme
Furthermore, Enang disclosed that members of the National Assembly were in support of the implementation of the RUGA scheme. As a matter of fact, he stated that the National Assembly had approved funds for the scheme.

“Beside the over N2 billion appropriated for RUGA, there were also budgeted sum of N300 million for water sanitation. Also, N400 million development for sweet potatoes and N350 million for ginger development amongst several other budgeted,” Enang disclosed.

Equally important, he affirmed that the budgetary allocation for RUGA was meant to promote cattle breeding and meat production.

“RUGA programme is an integrated farm system which has schools, good road, tractors and mechanisation, agricultural integration with a provision for primary healthcare and veterinary clinics.”

He, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians to stop politicising the implementation of the RUGA policy.

Some students, who spoke at the event, said they had not known much about the RUGA issue because government was yet to enlighten them on it. They appreciated the senator for throwing more light on it. Further, they appealed to government to increase its public enlightenment programme to enable the citizens understand better its policies.

Don't worry, u can give your family land to them since you're sure Ruga is not about fulanization or land grabbing !

Meanwhile, Buhari led government has money to build Ruga while the other sectors of the economy suffer lack of government attention and the country is wallowing in the water of infastcructural decay .

All I know is that Ruga is a plan that will never materialize !!!

Was there a time anybody thought Buhari was done with RUGA?

And for the record, the aim is not to quell insecurities, but to strategically have fulanis in all states of the federation which would ultimately lead to islamisation of the entire country in time.

Have you seen Tinubu or Yoruba Muslims speak ill of Ruga before..

are u stupid? how can u compare obudu cattle ranch to this RUGA madness? obudu is a ranch.. ! RUGA as far as the government are hiding the whole info, is a biased , 1-sided benefit, colonizing-intent, and manipulative scheme. if they want to make it real, let the cattle they bring here be handled by the people in that community. let d Fulani stay in their side for goodness sake!

I wonder what actually happens some of these zombies from down south when they get to the center.

You'll never see a northerner support policies their people have rejected, but the sabos from down south prefer to reason from their anus.

Spits..
