Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has donated N10 million to victims of the recent flood in Jigawa State.

Presenting the cheque to Gov Sule Lamido at Government House on Saturday in Dutse, Atiku said he was deeply touched by the plight of the flood victims. Atiku said his donation was only a token which he hoped would assist in alleviating the sufferings of the victims.

Gov Lamido thanked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant for his kindness and generousity. Atiku later addressed a large crowd of party supporters at Jigawa Hotels and held a series of meetings with possible delegates to the upcoming party presidential primaries.

He touted his credentials as a democrat, a dogged fighter for justice and equity, an experienced administrator and a great mobilizer of human and material resources. He asked them to support his quest to fly the party's flag in the next presidential election.

Atiku, whose mother originally hailed from Dutse, Jigawa state paid a courtesy visit on the Emir of Dutse, Dr.Nuhu Mohammed Sunusi before he left the state on Sunday.

The Emir described Atiku's visit as a home-comind. He prayed for his success in the coming elections.

"The extent of work done here shows that the developers are progressing, but we are going to put in facilities that will enable them complete the buildings within the shortest possible time.

"They have complained about the access roads, which the ministry is going to look into and fast track movement into the estate as soon as possible," he pledged.

He explained that the projects were initiated by his predecessors, but the inspection visit was to fast track their completion to increase the number of houses available to Nigerians.

On the Public Private Partner (PPP) arrangement, the minister said, "We have conditions which were specified to the developers, and our staff who are professionals have been going round to ensure that developers comply with the prerequisites. So far, we are very satisfied that the developers are building according to our programme and specification."

Explaining further, he said, "The ministry provides them the land, while they do the building of the houses. At the end of the sales, the ministry shares the proceeds with the developers based on an agreed ratio."

Essien disclosed that the houses cost N2.7m, N4m and N9m depending on their size and quality, but assured that the government would also provide houses that civil servants can afford.

Lol , even messengers of local govt chairmen can give you that amount. That being said, it took GEJ's criticism on face book for him to actually do something about the victims, hypocrites. He was in kano on saturday to launch his campaign office.

His action is in response to what GEJ said, nevertheless it is a cheap election campaign because after the offer, he asked them to vote for him.

@Edoyad,

I am sure even motor park tout, can give that sort of money, which to some may not be much, but the bigger question is where did he get it from. A politician turns up with the viable or visible means of earning, and you dont question him? This is the problem we have with Nigerian politics and Nigeria as a whole. We dont ask questions when we should, we just accept things the way it is. We see public servamts as gods, rather than public servants which they are.

If you house boy or girl turns up someday with 20m naira and a brand new rolls royces, would you question them?

Is it about who makes the biggest donation? Appreciate a good deed wherever you see it. If the intent was to provide some assistance or for political gain then thats an issue that will be handled between the donor and his Creator.

WHERE DID HE GET THE MONEY FROM? SO THE CREDIT GOES TO THE ORIGINAL SOURCE OF THE MONEY (NIGERIA) & NOT THAT CHEAP THIEF CALLED ATIKU! SAME GOES TO BABANGIDDA,OBASANJO,TINUBU e'tal
Re: Atiku Donates N10m To Jigawa Flood Victims by monkeyleg: 3:49pm On Oct 18, 2010
My people, we must start asking this basic question, where did he get 10m naira to donate. the same can be said of PJ, where did she get the money to start buying and distributing rice. This simple question goes to the heart of corruption in that country, we must start challenging those who claim to lead us, only to steal from us.
