UMUAWULU KINGDOM.

Umuawulu Kingdom is a town in Awka South LGA of Anambra State. It has boundary with Nibo, Nise, Mbaukwu, Awgbu, okpeze, and Isiagu town.

UMUAWULU as a town was founded by a famous Hunter called Awulu. His father called Okpala Eshi migrated from Oraeri in the present Anaocha LGA and settled at a place called Uhu. When his son Awulu was of age,he moved to a place called Anaezi Okpo in Umuawulu and settled there. Awulu Okpala Eshi got married and had four sons, namely Enugwu, Agbana, Umuenu and Ogba. Later Ogba emigrated to MBAUKWU and became the present day Ogba village in MBAUKWU
Today, the three remaining sons of Awulu Okpala Eshi are the progenitors of the three main villages in Umuawulu namely: Enugwu, Umuenu and Agbana.

Umuawulu people are known for oneness and love for their community which has led to remarkable progress in the community. The main festival that marks a symbol of unity in the town is the annual New Yam Festival done every last Saturday of September. All sons and daughters both home and abroad converge at the Igwe's palace for this great festival.
The highest masquerade in Umuawulu is the Okwomma masquerade which is well known even in the neighbouring communities.
Other masquerades include Ovulikpo Avuja, Nwanya Anyia, Agaba and Akwuneche, plus Ogba Mgbada and Anikwu Igba.

Politically, Umuawulu was the headquarters of the defunct Obizi LGA in 1983 before the military take over.

Some Umuawulu indegenes has held different political posts in the State Eg late Chief Okonkwo Nkala was once the Chairman of Nsukka LGA of the old Anambra State, Late Chief Chukwudi Okafor (Amuluonyego) was once the acting Chairman Awka South LGA, Hon.Barr. Harford Oseke was the immediate past Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, and Dr. Boniface Anaebonam is the current chairman and founder of NNPP, a registered political party with members in the Federal House of Reps etc.
Also Umuawulu people are well known in business and among the notable people who has brought outstanding progress to Umuawulu Kingdom are Chief Azubuike Ekwozor (Ide Awulu),High Chief Christopher Ndubuisi (Ikenga Awulu), Chief IKD Nwozor, Barr. OGBUNKA

L.G.A- ORUMBA SOUTH

History has it that a Man called NKA, who was believed to have migrated from Owillo in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State in 14th century A.D was the founding father of the community.

NKA married and gave birth to an only son who's full name was OGBUNKA, a concatenation of Ogbu and Nka which translates as OGBU, son of NKA.

OGBU married three wives and begot five sons namely: ISIOKPU, AWKA, AGBALA, UMUNOBA and AKWUOBA.
(The five villages in OGBUNKA Town).

History has also it that ISIOKPU village sequel to the need for Protection and defence from external aggression, ceded their decision making rights, otherwise known as BIRTH-RIGHT (As the first Son) to AWKA Village.

AKWUOBA Village harbours the most popular deity in the town known as AGBARA Shrine (Oracle) which is consulted by Far and Wide, seeking explanation or solutions to Mysterious circumstances.

OGBUNKA community is also blessed with A Precious Stone, which is the major reason for the "past war" between her and her neighboring Community; OWERRE EZUKALA.

Neighboring towns includes: Umunze, Eziagu, Nawfija, Ufuma....just to mention a few!

Their present President General is Chief Emmanuel Okoro

It presently has no traditional ruler!

Ogbunike

Ogbunike is a town in the Oyi local government area of Anambra State, Nigeria.

Ogbunike was the first son of Iguedo, daughter of Eri. It is said that Eri canoed down the River Anambra (Omambala River) and established a place known as Eri-Aka. Eri had two wives. The first bore four sons and one daughter: Agulu (founder of Aguleri); Nri Ifiakuanim; Nri Onugu (founder of Igbariam); Ogbodudu (the founder of Amanuke); and the female Iguedo. She bore the founders of Ogbunike: Awkuzu, Nando, and Umueri who are today known as the Umu-Iguedo clan. Eri's second wife, Oboli, gave birth to Onoja, who left the Anambra area and became the founder of Igala. The people of Ogbunike are known regarding tortoise as deities. They joined Ogidi town in not killing pythons due to intermarriage between them. Presently, Christianity has dominated Ogbunike.

Like most Eri-Aka towns of Igboland, Ogbunike is divided into three main parts: Ezi, Ifite and Ikenga. Each section is further divided into villages. Amawa is part of Ezi, Ifite also names its village and Ikenga hosts Ukalor, Osile, Umueri and Azu.

It is located about 15 kilometers east of Onitsha. The town is bordered on the east by Umudioka of the Dunukofia local government area, on the north-east by Umunya and on the north by Nkwelle-Ezunaka (both Oyi local government area). It shares its boundary on the west and south with Ogidi of Idemili North local government area.

Ogbunike hosts one of the largest caves in Africa (Ogbunike cave), the famous Oye Olisa Market amongst others. Ogbunike also celebrates new yam festival (Nwafor) with her neighbouring village Ogidi the same time of the year.

ALOR Community

LGA: Idemili South Local Government Area

Alor is a small but beautiful town in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. It shares common boundaries with Abatete and Ide-Ani communities, both in Idemili North LGA as well as Nnokwa and Nnobi communities, both in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.

Alor town consists of two traditional sections: Ezi and Ifite sections. The Ezi section is made up of three (3) villages namely: Umuoshi, Etiti and Ebenesi-Okebunoye while the Ifite section is made of three (3) villages as well: Uruezeani, Ide and Umuokwu. Even though the stool of the traditional ruler of Alor rotates between the Ezi and Ifite sections, any candidate for the position would have to be screened by the Alor Regency Council before he is declared the Igwe by the leadership of the Alor Peoples' Convention.

Alor has several functional road systems that primes it from surrounding communities, adequate water reticulation and street lights that grace the town at night. Most people believe this is where Alor got her nickname "Alor London" because of the sheer beauty of the community; but in reality, Alor is so nicknamed because many of her indigenes stayed in London in the early days. Alor town is blessed with numerous water resources namely: Mmiri Okide, Mmiri Ogbo (which separates Alor from Ide-Ani town), Mmiri Ihe Ogwugwu(Alor Spring), Mmiri St John amongst others.

The major market day in Alor is NKWO and on that day, traders from the eighteen (18) kindreds that make up Alor and from neighbouring communities converge at NKWO ALOR to trade. Alorites are mostly business men and women measured in textile materials(Abada), a good number are also into farming, animal husbandry, and block industry business. Many of them are educated and practicing professionals also.

Alor culture and traditions is almost synonymous with neighbouring communities in Idemili, which in turn is consistent with general Igbo culture.

The current occupant of the Alor traditional stool is HRH MacAnthony Okonkwo (Ezedioramma III). Alor has many illustrious sons such as Sen. Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra and former Minister of Labour and Employment, as well as Engr Emeka Eze, former Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement.
Foremost Minister of Agriculture and educationalist, Chief P.N. Okeke was also from Alor.

AMESI

LGA: Aguata Local Government Area.

Amesi is an amazing town of wonderful, happy, hospitable and industrious people driven by the spirit of excellence. In Amesi dignity of labour is highly esteemed above all.

This beautiful and blessed community is made up of five villages and it is located at the southern part of Aguata Local Government Area in Anambra State of Nigeria. Amesi town is bounded by these towns – Akpo on the north, Uga on the south; Nkpologwu on the east while on the west by Achina and Umuchu towns.

Our Progenitor

Eze Nri Nnamako, son of (Eri) the legendary progenitor of the Igbo Race gave birth to Akalabo and others. Akalabo, one of the many sons of Eze Nri Nnamako was the only son (“Nwaolu”) from his mother, but had two step brothers. The step brothers of Akalabo are Evo and Okwaike. “Evo” is the eldest whose descendants are the present “Oraeri” people and “Okwaike” whose descendants are the present “Nnokwa” people in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.

Akalabo himself had three children namely: Amesi, Akpo and Achina (Umu Akalabo) in order of seniority. And Amesi is the ancestral father of Umulodike (now Obinato), Amuwo, Akarannuo (now Umuocha), Ubaha, and Obinabo in order of seniority. These five villages are deemed equal in status as they relate to the town and to one another, without prejudice to the traditionally accepted order of seniority among themselves.

Obinato village is presently made up of seven (7) kindred, namely: Umumeoha, Umuezediala, Umuanum, Umudim, Umuife, Umuibelaka and Umumebughido by birth.

Amuwo village is presently made up of six (6) kindred namely; Umudibe, Umuaruo, Onunaku, Umumeanosike, Umumeanyaji and Umumeodunukwe, in order of sharing things among themselves and not necessarily by birth.

Umuocha village is presently made up of six (6) kindred namely; Umeokpalawuzie, Umuojihie, Umeogbaghi, Umuokpalahaejesi, Umuokpalaibekwe and Umuomeonaku in order of sharing things among themselves and not necessarily by birth.

Ubaha village is presently made up of seven (7) kindred namely; Umuezemei, Umuduru, Umumeoka, Umugologo, Umuezechukwu, Umuemeaduluo and Umuezeiheshie in order of sharing things among themselves and not necessarily by birth.

Obinabo village has four kindred –namely Umuezediala, Umuanum, Umuife and Umuibelaka

In Amesi Community, “Obi” is the traditional head, same with specific village, Kindred and Family in things relating to customary rites and usages. The ancestral home, the “Obi of Amesi”, rests with Umeonanakume of Umumeoha kindred, which also stands as the “Obi” of Obinato village, Amesi.

The ancestral home (“Obi”) of Amuwo village rests with Agochukwu family of Umudibe kindred, Amuwo, Amesi. The ancestral home (“Obi”) of Umuocha village rests with Obiagboso family of Umuokpalawuzie kindred, Umuocha, Amesi. The ancestral home (“Obi”) of Ubaha village rests with Ezeuchegbu family of Umuezemei kindred, Ubaha, Amesi.

Amesi community highly values respect for elders hence the formation of age grade system to help her people know their seniors and accord them due respect. In Amesi belonging to an Age grade group come with responsibility. Age Grade system is in order of seniority in Amesi Community.

As death is the path of all men and with passage of time some of these age grades whittle away as men and women in that age group die and younger ones form new age grades in the community this explains the reason why that as at today some age grades have outlived their lifetime and therefore no more in existence. For example these age grades existed in Amesi Community in order of seniority:

Mbieri, Ajanku , Ajagu, Obia Ozuma, Egboteghi Dike, Okeata ,Mbakwereike and Ogbajirigwe Age Grades.

Worthy of note is that there are no more living members of these foremost age grades in Amesi due to generational shift. However, these newer age grades in order of seniority exist now, Oputaoka , Aladimma , Okukadigbo, Ifeadigo, Oganiru, Ifedioramma, Udogadi ,Gosife and Obinwanne Age Grades.

Long live Amesi akalabonkwu!

LGA: Ekusugo Local Government Area.

Oraifite share a common ancestry with Nnewi and Ichi towns that make up the ANA-EDO clan. According to oral traditions, the reliable history of ANA-EDO has it that Nnewi is the oldest son of Ikenga, followed by Oraifite and Ichi, the youngest son of their father. Oraifite is made up of four villages, namely- Uuodu, Ezumeri, Irefi and Ifite.
Oraifite town is in Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra. It shares borders with Oba and Akwu-ukwu in the North. Ichi is in the North-East; Nnewi in the east; Ozubulu in the South and Ogbaru in the West.
The location of Oraifite is about ten to fifteen minutes kilometres from Onitsha, end of the motorway.

The people of Oraifite are naturally and predominately farmers. The town is endowed with rich and arable expanse of agricultural land. A segment of the town is seasonally riverine having been invaded by the tributaries of the River Niger (NGBO) waterway and therefore been nicknamed the food basket of Anambra state. And also feeds the surrounding towns with their popular palm wine, (NGWO or OGOLO) and fish.
The NGBO waterway offered the early contact with Europeans and adventures firstly the Portuguese merchants, much later than British colonialists and missionaries.

Since the early exuberance of Western civilisation, the people of Oraifite have not looked back in the giant strides of scholastic pursuit. Because of all these things, Oraifite becomes a blessed town with sons and daughters who have made indelible marks in the stand of progress of various chosen professions that are academic. This is a legacy we inspire to pass to our younger generations.

There are many prominent people from Oraifite. Among them is Sir Emeka Offor the CEO of chrome Group.

ABATETE

LGA: Idemili North Local Government Area

Abatete is a village in Anambra State in
Nigeria . Abatete is bordered by Uke , Ogidi ,
Abacha, Oraukwu, Alor, Ideani, Eziowelle,
Umuoji. It is located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. It is made up of four villages: Nsukwu, Agbaja, Ogbu and Odida. Its people are one of the Igbo speaking peoples of Eastern Nigeria.

Abatete, like most Igbo communities, has a rich cultural heritage. Okolie Otie was indisputably the ancestral father of Abatete, Umuoji and Nkpor, but his origin is still unsettled. Otie had three sons: Edeogu, Ora and Ideke. Edeogu his eldest son married Mgboko eke, and they had nine sons: Nsukwu, Agbaja, Isiuzo, Akwa, Azu ogwa, Mputu, Odida, and Ogbu in that order.

Abatete has four Obis representing each quarter (in red below) and Ichies representing each of the 25 wards.
Abatete sits on a high altitude plane, hundreds of feet above sea level. The seasons swing between long periods of dry and wet seasons with a little touch dry harmatan. Natives are agrarian but early settlers were artisans. Because labor was needed for production on the farm, polygamy was a necessity. The more hands on the till, the better the production. In the middle of the 20th century, the natives started branching out to less labor-intensive and better paying jobs Driving and carpentry were at the head of the class. Then, they developed the technology of customizing vehicles. On merchandise retailing Abatete is a top dog. Today, Abatete excels in all fields, both public and private sector.

IGBO-UKWU
LGA: Aguata Local Government Area.
"Great Igbo" is a town in the
Nigerian state of Anambra in the southeastern part of the country. The town comprises three quarters namely Obiuno, Ihite, and Ngo with several villages within each quarter and thirty-six(36) administrative wards.
Archaeological significance:
Igbo-Ukwu is notable for three archaeological sites, where excavations have found bronze
artifacts from a highly sophisticated bronze metal-working culture dating to 9th century AD, centuries before other known bronzes of the region. The first, called Igbo Isaiah, was uncovered in 1938 by Isaiah Anozie, a local villager, who found the bronze works while digging beside his home. Five bronze artifacts from the original excavation are now in the British Museum 's collection. They include a small staff, a head of a ram , a large manilla , an intricately designed crescent-shaped vessel and a small pendant in the shape of a local chief's head with scarification (ichi) marks on the face.
Formal excavations by the archaeologist Thurstan Shaw in 1959 at the request of the Nigerian government, resulted in the discovery of two other sites, Igbo Richard and Igbo Jonah, containing the remains of an ancient culture. Later, these were excavated as well. Artifacts have included jewelry , ceramics , a corpse adorned in what appears to be regalia , and many assorted bronze, copper , and iron objects. Some of these contain materials that are evidence of a long-distance trading system extending to Egypt.
Radiocarbon dating placed the sites to 850 which would make the Igbo-Ukwu culture the earliest-known example of bronze casting in the region. The craftsmen were working centuries before those who made the more well-known Ife bronzes. The archaeological sites in southeastern Nigeria are associated with the Nri-Igbo . The three sites include Igbo Isaiah (a shrine ), Igbo Richard (a burial
chamber ), and Igbo Jonah (a cache ). Artifacts found in these sites have shown that by the 9th century AD, the Igbo-Ukwu people had established a complex religious system and an economy based on agriculture and trade with other African peoples as far as the Nile valley.
Notable People from Igbo-Ukwu include
Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Sen Uche Ekwunife, Chukwudi Ike-Okoye, etc

AWGBU
Awgbu is a town in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, South East of Nigeria.
Awgbu town shares boundaries in the West by Agulu and Mbaukwu; in the East by Ndikelionwu, Omogho and Awa; in the North by Umuawulu and Amaetiti; while in the South by Amaokpala and Nanka.
The indigenes of Awgbu are the descendant of Ezekanunu. Ezekanunu has six sons from five wives: They include Ugwu, Abor, Osikwu, Ohzu and Amaugo (twin brothers) and Mbulukor. Ohzu and Amaugo are twins of the same mother. The practice then being that inheritance are shared (na afo nne) according to wives. Ohzu and Amaugo, being that they are twins of the same mother always get a portion. This is evident in the number of five villages we have in Awgbu. The villages are five instead of six because Ohzu and Amaugo which are twins are counted as one village.
Awgbu has one main market that trades on a specific day of the Igbo calendar called Eke-Awgbu which trades on every Eke market day of Igbo calendar. The market is currently in a very poor and shabby state due to land dispute challenges, as being alleged that land owners have refused to release their land for construction of shopping malls and modern Market. Awgbu natives also found it difficult to dispose of their land for development, this has also hampered community developments.
The current traditional ruler is
