Most first class students won't make great scientists because they hardly think out of the box... Don't take this wrongly. I'm not beefing anyone.
Bullshitt.
If the 2-1 guys can think out of the box, they would get a first class.

The thing is they probably don't know that most of the PDTF innovations are done by first class graduates who are now lecturers.
Go to abuja and browse their archives.

My former project supervisor, who had a first class in Nigeria and a masters distinction in imperial college, designed an efficient means for converting sawdust particles to liquid fuel as his PhD project in Nigeria.

He got a lot of applause but the project is gathering dust in abuja.

Right !

Education is the bedrock of any economic development.. Our greatest resource is not oil but our mind... We need to go back to the drawing board and have a complete overhauling of our university system.

Build a strong Internal control and periodic personnel Audit for the Teaching and Non teaching staffs..

Attaching Lecturer remuneration to student performance and intellectual development and beneficial progressive research.

Segregating duties of Lecturer,The lecturer marking should not be the one teaching..There should be a different department marking exams script and review the results in case of mistakes and error in grading..

Any lecturer caught accepting blocking or having sexual relations with a student should be JAILED and all his qualifications withdrawn!.

All department should have a highly skilled Technocrat with an enormous industry experience,he can be a visiting lecturer to teach the Ultimate students and transfer practical knowledge and prepare them for the real world...

FG should invest massively in STEM education. STEM is the new oil..

FG should set up a technical committee comprising of Expert with vast experience in each field of study to look into each Department syllabus and academic time table, they should remove all irrelevant topics and add more practical topics..They should build the syllabus in line with current world standard.

The University campus should have a Metropolitan Area network to enable student carry out research and have access to many e-learning facilities..

The University should have an effective Human Resource Department were employment will be based only on merit and intellectual ability, organising workshop training and sending some lecturers to further abroad,a more robust remuneration and incentive to motivate them,Promotion should be based purely on Practical and innovative research that will help industry and economy not mere "copy" and paste" journals.

France produces 80,000 engineers and 70,000 Ph.D.s every year, and one in three now create business..FG should start fuelling the entrepreneurship spirit among students because its the only panacea to the high unemployment rate.

FG need to start running our Educational sector like business,we need to focus more on this sector.

This is a technocrat with a deep knowledge of education. I doff my hat.

I am very sure this is your field.

Do you know anything about charter schools or school vouchers? Can they work here in view of the high level of corruption and mediocrity in many areas?

I'm Optimistic I'd come back to testify.

Don’t worry, it would gather dust no more. The essence of TYSON is to get everyone talking on how we can really bridge that gap between research and industry.

When there is segregation of duties corruption is reduced.

It will be hard to eradicate completely but once you give room for meritocracy things will change bit by bit..

Do you think Einstein would have gotten a first class in Nigeria? This is because he proved many existing theories as fallacies and would have gotten on the bad sides of lecturers who want you to give them what they gave you.

You forgot that Einstein set the basis for.modern nuclear physics.
He was able to think outside the box because he was better than his peers and even the lecturers.

If you can't beat your class mates in advanced engineering calculus, how exactly are you going to think outside the box?

To point out errors or invalidate an hypothesis, you must have understood it better than most.

Just as Nigeria is good at winning u16 football cup; in the same vein, Nigeria loves producing first class graduates at BSc level.
You can't compete with the whites at advanced level All these talk talk won't get us anywhere; we are NOT INTELLIGENT enough!!

How many of our programmers can hack better than the Indians, Americans and Europeans? At least we all have computers. How many Nigerians can invent a cryptocurrency like Santoshi Nakamoto did? How many of our chess masters can beat the average Asian grandmaster?

We'd rather gather and talk, talk and talk!
