Alex Iwobi has become the costliest Nigerian footballer in history, following his transfer deadline-day move from Arsenal to Everton.

Iwobi has agreed a five-year contract with Marco Silva’s men, in a deal worth €43million on Thursday.

The 23-year-old overtakes Super Eagles team-mate, Kelechi Iheanacho, who cost Leicester City 25million when he arrive from Manchester City.

The list features some of Nigeria’s present and past players, with names like Odion Ighalo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Austin Jay Jay Okocha.

Needless to say, the 20 million payed for Mikel in the early 2000s was a lot for an African player in those days, not to talk of a midfielder.

A good striker in those days could go for 10million pounds and good defenders then were not more than 15 million.

I remember when Andy Karel's 35 million pounds price tag at Liverpool about 9 years ago felt like a lot.

Decent strikers these days cost about 30million to 80 million, while defenders now cost up to 80 million pounds.
