A gun and ammunition were found hidden down the back of Olusegan Shobanjo's sofa

We've all found things down the back of our sofas we weren't expecting to find there.

But when police raided Olusegan Shobanjo's flat in Edgware they found just what they were looking for down the back of his sofa.


He has hidden a gun there and he's now been jailed for six years for the crime.

Shobanjo, 20, of Penavia Court, was sentenced today (Friday, August 9) following a trial at Harrow Crown Court which concluded on Wednesday.

He was convicted of being in possession of a firearm, being in possession of ammunition, possession of crack cocaine and possession of criminal property (namely over £4,000 in cash).

The court heard that on the morning of September 13, 2018, officers executed a search warrant at Shobanjo’s home.

Upon gaining entry, the suspect was found lying on the sofa and was immediately arrested.

Officers searched down the back of the sofa and found a firearm and a quantity of ammunition. Class A and B drugs and cash were also found in the property.

Shobanjo was taken to a North London police station for questioning, where he provided "no comment" answers throughout.


Detective Constable Bryan Pontin said: "There is absolutely no reason a firearm like this and live ammunition should be on the streets of London. I’m extremely proud of all the hard work that my colleagues have put in to identify Shobanjo and seize this weapon.

"I hope that this result sends a stark warning to anyone who is in possession of or is thinking of holding a firearm for a friend or family member."
