I was just confused how nairaland comes into play here.

That's his original/personal mail, maybe he is using different or another one for his business.
The mail carries his Original info I think.

you are not getting it. His social media accounts were just to corroborate the fact that he is fraudulent. What led to his arrest is his fraudulent dealing with Unatrac. If Unatrac kept quiet like the other shoe company he defrauded, nobody would have arrested him even if he made 1 million nairaland posts!!! What led to his arrest was the report Unatrac made to FBI and not his post on Nairaland!!!

Uncle stop arguing this thing. Did the Unatrac report put a face to the culprit? NO. All it did was indicate that a fraud had been commited. The email that was eventually discovered to be behind the fraud was faceless until it led to obiwanne on Nairaland, where is Twitter account was then identified and subsequently Instagram.

Its not Nairaland that led to his arrest. If you read the full report, you will see that he has been under surveillance. His fraudulent dealing with Unatrac got him exposed, not his Nairaland post.
Na only you sabi read and understand this kind post since yesterday, it wasn't nairaland, some literates that knows how to read but find it difficult to comprehend are misleading a lot if people even the op, his legitimate email address that was linked to the fraudulent email address for recovery purpose and IP where the things used to investigate/track him not nairaland

even if there is no twitter, nairaland or insta in the picture they would still get him his legitimate email which was under investigation was also linked to his businesses which I believe must have been registered and used for transactions, with his business in the picture alone his home address everything would be revealed, his arrest must have occurred anywhere in the world

Not entirely correct. The email alone can't provide a solid case. They had an email "obiwanne@gmail.com that was traced to be linked to the iconclast email that was key to the fraud, but it doesn't indicate much. He could claim it was hacked.

What his Twitter and IG did was place him at the scene of the crime. He posted on IG that he was in Seychelles at the same period one of the fraudulent transactions emanated from an IP address in Seychelles. Also posted about being in Washington DC at the same time another fraudulent mail emanated from the same DC.

HIs social media activity sealed the deal.

The title of this thread is misleading and that is what is causing the disagreement. His Nairaland post and profile actually helped FBI to put a name to the fraudster they were investigating and then his subsequent arrest. However, his Nairaland post did not led to his arrest. His fraudulent activities led to his arrest.

I can't make the same mistake because I am not fraudulent like him. The only social media that was mentioned was Instagram. I don't know how Nairaland came into the picture

Oga, go and read the FBI write up again. He clearly stated that the email address was traced to his Nairaland account... It was his NL account that they used to trace his twitter and other social media handles....

So yes, Nairaland played an important role in capturing him.

Kudos seun

OK, good. There are other emails linked to him. What led to his arrest was the report Unatrac sent to FBI and not his post here

Unatrac petitioned the FBI on it but the FBI used various sources like google, Nairaland and co to trace the criminal.

So NL played an important role.

What is wrong with you? Gosh!

Unatrac only petitioned the FBI about the wire fraud... they don't have any details about the scammer. Now FBI does their findings and was led by one of his emails to Nairaland.

His profile, email address, pictures, abuja address and his Twitter handle was gotten and exposed on his Nairaland past post. This information the FBI got from Nairaland NOT Unatrac.

Please you guys should use your brains and stop unnecessary argument.

This is the kind of educated illiterates we have on Nairaland. The fact that you got over 300likes on this makes it more baffling.

If you studied the affidavit very well you will know that the primary email address used for the scam was not linked to invictusObi until it was found on Nairaland. It was on Nairaland that the face was seen and it was through Nairaland that they got the link to his twitter page, from twitter to his instragram page.

Without this Nairaland post, they’d just be chasing after shadows cos they wouldn’t be able to link it to his twitter and Instagram from where they monitored his movements and linked his hospital record to his email.

Lol. Ultimately, if you don't do the crime, you won't do the time. grin However, there are many fraudulent people walking free. Even the FBI have unresolved cases. So engaging in fraudulent activities doesn't automatically lead to an arrest. Get my drift?

Also there us something I would like to say, some people where busy saying one should be careful if what one says online cos DSS etc will track u bla bla bla, so now that the DSS etc have few tech that could help track criminals "crminals" wouldn't it be a criminal offense to deplore such techs in their possession against citizens who are unhappy with the way the gvt governs and finds a voice in social media cos we can't risk our lives to protest as they do in advance countries?

Most definitely. If such technology is used to intimidate the opposition or silence govt critics, it is a gross abuse of power and the judiciary should ideally throw such a case out. Problem is, even our judiciary is corrupt.
