El-Zakzaky, whose first name is also spelt “Ibrahim”, founded IMN as a student at ABU to propagate Shi’ite Islam, which gained a significant mileage in 1979 with the Iranian revolution.

Iran became an Islamic republic under Ayatollah Khomeini, who overthrew the country’s monarchy.

TheCable obtained the report of the disciplinary committee which recommended the expulsion of El-Zakzaky and Sani Daura, then president of the Muslim Student Society (MSS), over the incident. Although he made a first-class in economics, he did not graduate officially.

Some MSS members had invaded a party organised by ABU students union to protest the sale and consumption of alcohol by those in attendance.

‘HOW ALCOHOL PROVOKED THE ATTACK’

In the report dated November 2, 1979, and signed by S.S.Gbinde, its secretary, the committee said it was believed El-Zakzaky was one of those behind the invasion that occurred on October 20, 1979.

Ango Abdullahi, then-acting vice-chancellor of ABU and chairman of the committee, had told the members that MSS had written a “warning letter” to the students union against the planned party.

Daura, then MSS leader, was quoted as telling the committee that the group sent the letter to kick against the planned consumption and sale of alcohol “on the grounds that public places were being used and public money was being used.”

Asked why the university should “in isolation disapprove of what is commonly allowed outside”, Daura reportedly responded that that was “a matter of ignorance on the part of the general public.”

“On Saturday, the students union disco party was held as scheduled and about 3am, about nine MSS students came in with clubs and other weapons with the intent to cause trouble,” the committee said in one of its minutes.

‘EL-ZAKZAKY’S ROLE IN THE FRACAS’

El-Zakzaky, who was the secretary-general of the MSS in 1977/78 session, was quoted as telling the committee “he was a party to the peaceful demonstration and not the violent one”.

Asked where he was the night the fracas occurred, El-Zakzaky reportedly said he came back from town at about 5pm, left his room at about 9:15pm for the central mosque “for the usual Saturday discussion” (and) was back about 11pm where he met Sheriff Abuna, Abdullahi and Usman.

“He continued that when he was woken up at night, himself, Sheriff, Abdullahi and another person all rushed out. An alarm was rasied and Abdullahi was arrested and taken to the security office. He admitted that he followed him to the security office and was back to his room at about 3am,” the report read.

The report added that after his interrogation, Abdullahi, who also served as the committee chairman, said he believed “the attack had originated from Ibrahim’s room as most of the people identified with the incident came from his room.”

“Other members of the committee the same views and believed that Ibrahim was one of the brains behind the trouble,” it added.

We shiite igbos are okay with him as long as he is on a different camp with buhari. If he like, let him come to our place with his war-like preaching or even kill our people, we prefer him.

Do sunni Muslims which Buhari belong have a different ideology? When will Buhari arrest those that brought sharia into the country? What about those that masterminded killings in the North when sharia was introduced in Nigeria?

When will Buhari extend the same treatment to Briget Aburime killers? What of Redeemed woman killers?

El Zakaay being violent in no different from the violence that runs in the blood of all Northerners Buhari inclusive. If he was a Sunni, you won't be getting these propaganda. More so, nobody would have arrested him. We know all the dots so you can shove your propaganda down ur sorry a.s.s

So violence has been in his blood for a long a time.

He will stay in detention for a long time.
Some hypocritical Christians are bashing El rufai, calling him a Jihadist with sharia agenda but see nothing wrong in El Zakyzaky's extremism because it is Buhari that is the President.

Hatred for Buhari has blinded their eyes and they can't say the truth.

This was exactly how their OAU faction invaded Awo Hall on a Friday night when Awoite are having their usual sacrament, that was sometimes in 2007. They came with club, bottles, sticks and swords, ironically, what these people does to their female counterpart is devilish.

When their mosque inside Awo cafe was invaded by ever militant Awoite, then we discovered up to 13 pregnant ladies who are students and some nursing mothers, we never had an idea of what goes on around that hub before that day. It has to involve the DSS of the school to gain entrance into their hub inside Awo Cafe that day.

This report clearly shows that Zakzaky has a 'first-class' brain and is highly intelligent - obviously and far more intelligent than Nigeria's current 'President' and 'Commander-in-Chief' of the Nigerian Armed Forces who has no certificate in his name but tenders only photographs of the schools he attended.

I keep hearing that this man is a terrorist, the man is violent, the man is an extremist, the man is this and that, but when I check our history, his biggest antagonists happen to be mainly Sunni Muslims who we all know have a historical religious prejudice against whatever El Zakyzaky stands for.

A review of our local Nigerian history with regards violent extremism also confirms that the Shiites have never been responsible for any acts of public disorder. Rather it happens to just be that about all the acts of extremism related violence and public disorder have been perpetrated by Sunni based groups, yet these people want us to believe we should be more worried about Shiites?... That's rather illogical.

The union was proscribed around that time, it was the year the election that led to the candidacy of Akinola Saburi AKA Malcom X was nullified so the union was on autopilot. We had a break during that time "Mojo Break". These Alfas, Pastors and Imams are the highest form of hypocrisy, I don't give them regard because if you're fortunate to know what they do underneath.

ExAngel007:
El

Iran became an Islamic republic under Ayatollah Khomeini, who overthrew the country’s monarchy.

The above is fake news or propaganda to paint Zakzaky this bogeyman ayatollah-overthrowing-image.

Ayatollah Khomeini did not overthrow the country's monarchy. He was even in exile in France when the people brought down the Shah or King of Iran. There was widespread popular discontent and revolt for more than two decades before the fall of the Shah. Ayatollah Khomeini provided the leadership to spearhead the revolution. Had Ayatollah Khomeini not been present and even if he wasn't born at all, the Iranians would have still risen up against the monarchy and replaced it with something else. As a religious leader, since Iran is over 90% Shi'ite, the Ayatollah stood up to the test of time and provided the needed leadership and direction his people were in dire need of. He presented himself as a pillar and support they could lean on.

Even after the revolution succeeded, the Ayatollah conducted a referendum like any other modern democracy would do. The Iranians voted in favor of establishing an Islamic republic under his leadership. The monarchy that the people rose up against was very pro-western and anti-people. The other option would have been replacing it with a communist system. The Iranians had their own issues with the Soviet Union that at one time occupied half of Iran while the British occupied and ruled the other half. So the only viable alternative the Iranians were left with to give a try was the Ayatollah and an Islamic Republic.

So this image that Zakzaky is some sort of a Nigerian Khomeini is wet dream. Zakzaky can never become a Khomeini in Nigeria even if that is his own aspiration. Nigeria is not over 90% Shi'ite, not even a clear cut Muslim majority country. Nigeria is more diverse than Iran. Shi'ites constitute just about 10% of Nigeria's 80 to 100 million Muslims. Many things are not in his favor. To stop Zakzaky becoming Nigeria's Khomeini, the first step would be to prevent whatever would cause people to revolt like the Iranians did in 1950- 1979. Even if such a scenario happens, why would Nigerians of diverse backgrounds enthrone Zakzaky to rule them? Zakzaky, if he truly believes he can become Nigeria's Khomeini is really fantasizing way too far. I do not want to insult him if he really does dream of that because after all he is a religious cleric. I don't want the sin.
