We need solar power inventors ,I think that is common in Israel ,when that happens the exploitation will stop . the light this people supply in some places can't carry freezer or fridge and yet they are coming with huge bill ,how do we pay for service not enjoyed ?

There cannot be uninterrupted electricity without increase in tariff. The current tariff is not sustainable in the long run.
The solution is individuals investing in solar.
but does this solar really work well bro?

Inasmuch as people would shout 'We are poor'...here are some hard facts

1.We need to generate power above 40000MW

2.We also need to fix transmission systems

3.All these will cost trillions of naira.

4.And the way forward is by allowing DISCOS to set the price they want to set (yes, government should stop setting prcies).

Back in 2001...GSM came to Nigeria, with outrageous prices. We all complained. And the service was initailly poor. But thanks to the freedom affroded them to do their business they could raise funds to build from scratch the telephone and internet service we have today. All those GSM infrastructure you see is the result of allowing GSM companies freedom to set their prices.

If we keep on shortchanging the power sector....we will never see 24/7 light. Power companies cannot attract investment. They cannot even take loans from banks because the banks know they won't see their money....because the DISCOS aren't making enough profit to fund their operations, talkess of paying back a loan.

You are free to insult me, call me insensitive. But if I was in power and I forced you as a rice salesman or woman to sell rice at N7000 below the price you bought it....because of the masses...won't you go broke in a few years? Won't you sack your workers in a few years??

Let's stop acting like Communists. We don't have enough cash to run a Communist economy. If you want a communist economy, form a Marxist-Lenninist party, and implement your own state controlled prices...but the sad thing is that capitalism works. It hurts people, but it also benefits more people. Let's run power like a capitalist enterprise.

Comparing GSM and power is a very poor analogy.
GSM has many operators which made the market competitive. Each had options of fixing their own prices thereby attracting customers.
But power has no such thing.
In South East for example, who's competing with eedc? They have the sole right to distribute power there. They can choose to distribute or not and you will still pay. You can give a company monopoly and expect same company to reduce price.
And what happens to the billions of dollars that have been spent in the past for power generation?

Exactly..That is why I would forever and ever remain a capitalist..That is what made America the country it is today..I have said it before,Let the government hands off power completely like it did telecoms..Government has no business with that..Nigerians would gladly pay if power is available..The sound of my Generator irritates me and I so much dislike it but we have no choice..

Communism and socialism are evil and they should be expunged from the society..That is why I dislike people like Aregbesola who destroyed the present and the future of Osun state with socialism..As of today,Osun state is the poverty capital of the south west...A state like Osun that has power all what they need is private sector investment..But no,he was practising socialism.. stupid Man

It works excellently well. With improved technology solar energy has become relatively cheap within the last 10 years. You can run all your house hold appliances now with less than N2 million, less than 500,000 if you run the basics - TVs, computers, lights and fans.

A serious government would remove tariffs on solar energy products and watch the power companies cry.

affordability of electricity is relative. Electricity is also not that expensive in the world. We are not paying for electricity. We are paying for their incompetence.

They only reason why you feel ours is to cheap is because of the forex value. if all currency were equals. $10 per unit in yankee will be 10N in nigeria. is that expensive?

and if they are not equal, where there is honesty and transparency, electricity shouldnt be more than 20 to 25 naira per unit at most. For God's sake, they have over 100 million homes and industries to power. If they charge 1N sef, the will still male their profit.

I donot think that is true. From the provider stand point, stable electricity cuts down on a lot of incidental expenses the savings of which can be passed on to the consumer.

A more serious government will incentify the establishment of an alternative power industry including green energy. I donot agree with simply making imports cheaper. It doesn't help on the long run.

Give us steady uninterrupted electricity and see if people won't pay

personally, i think that's a fallacious statement because even now with the current low tarrifs people don't pay. Funny enough if power becomes available 24/7, even with the current tarrif people will pay more because their fridges and freezers will now be on round the clock.

They should just make available all the prepaid meters for usage by consumers.
We are tired of paying for no light usage in Bayelsa State.

Well unfortunately almost 100% of the equipment needed to generate electricity comes from abroad, so forex affects the final price. Like it or not, that is the unfortunate reality. And electricity is quite expensive anywhere.
