Commentor:no court will undermine the functions of a government agency here are some of the responsibility of, NERC: Regulates the generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity in Nigeria and with Nigeria; Licenses and inspects private and corporate electric power projects 10MW and above; where 1-10MW are issued Captive Licenses; Ensures the reliability of generation plants, high voltage transmission system and the zonal distribution system; Ensures occupational health and safety of persons involved with electricity in the whole sector. Monitors and investigates energy markets; Uses civil penalties and other means against energy organizations and individuals who violate NERC rules in the energy markets; Administers accounting and financial reporting regulations and conduct of regulated companies. 1 Like |

niaralandtopuser: What do you mean no court? It would be done and we would spend years arguing over the injunction rather than the substance. In addition, the press, supported by many online urchins would turn it into a tribal/partisan affair as many are already doing here. |

The agreement signed by DISCOs has certain checks & balances including milestones & timelines that if followed up by the government regulatory agency, would have translated to a better power situation. But PMB as he is his way with things he doesn't like, ignored the fine lines of that agreement & Nigerians are now bearing the brunt of his failure to pay attention to detail, appoint seasoned specialists in the sector & delay in constituting a competent team. |

Commentor:Do buhari government obey court order? Was there any attempt to fix the system that was stop by a court? Government is enjoying the corruption in the power sector. Money is exchanging hands. They are feeding fat from it so why should it be stopped? |

I blame it partly on some end users. Many people use power without paying for it. If you calculate the amount of user charges arrears own to Discos, you will be surprised. I think this is one of the reasons why power is becoming so expensive in the country. At over 29 Naira and to be increased at the end of this year, that's too much. Discos themselves are very corrupt and I blame them for many reasons too. 1 Like 1 Share |
