It's a shame our government is not realistic at all, making life hard for others, I wonder what will happen if our economy was better and the naira was strong, They won't give anybody visa at all.

Apart from the surge in insecurity, occasioned by individual lust for wealth, what exactly should government be doing?

Am glad the US embassy came out to explain because the agents of darkness like Abike Dabiri and the rest of them in his govt whom buhari has injected with his igbo hatred had started twisting the narratives.

But on a serious note, what is most worrisome is that the US govt met severally with the Nigerian govt with a view to reducing the fee charged on their people and the bribes experienced to get Nigerian visas and the useless buhari govt did nothing about it.

This is the exactly the same scenario that made the arbitration court in UK slam us with million billion dollar fine. They also wrote this useless buhari govt severally and they ignored them till the judgement debt was slammed.

We don't have a govt under this useless buhari

Stupid reasoning, more than 5 million Nigerians apply for US visa every year unlike the number of US citizens that apply to Nigeria a year, it can't be more than 100,000. Stupid US govt

They are not charging what they like, they have matched what Nigeria is charging US citizens which means they were charging less than the Nigerian embassy in the US before this hike.

An explanation on the Department of State website, travel.state.gov stated that non-immigrant visa applicants from certain countries might be required to pay a visa issuance fee after the approval of their application.

The statement said, “These fees are based on the principle of reciprocity: when a foreign government imposes fees on the US citizens for certain types of visas, the United States will impose a reciprocal fee on citizens of that country or area of authority for similar types of visas.

“Since early 2018, the US government has engaged the Nigerian government to request that the Nigerian government change the fees charged US citizens for certain visa categories.

Did you read the article at all or just jump on the it must be racism train?

To summarize for you they have increased their visa fees to match what the Nigerian embassy charges US citizens for Nigerian visa. If the Nigerian embassy can charge $180 why can't the US embassy? It is US govt policy to apply reciprocal visa fees and they raised this with the Nigerian govt nearly 2 years ago but nothing changed.

USA can be ruthless and unforgiving. Wtf is reciprocity fee? That isn’t fair on Nigeria, US is already favoured and there is an imbalance on the number of visa applicants from Nigeria to the USA compared to those coming in from the US to Nigeria.

Would US waiver visa for Nigerians if the Nigerian immigration authority grant US travellers to Nigeria the right to travel without the troubles of visa applications?

This reminds me of my doctor friend. He has a mechanic who fixes his cars and sometimes does steal his fuel. My doctor friend most times would not complain but he’d say that the mechanic would pay twice as much as he got off him when he comes with a headache.

I'm for this Reciprocity Fee.. If it deters Nigerians from travelling there.. They should stay and build their country. Or better still, go to Canada where Nigerians are not profiled as much. I don tire to dey hear bad news.
