The Governing Board of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, Ondo State, on Tuesday, approved the removal of Dr Emmanuel Moyinjesu as the acting provost of the institution.

Moyinjesu was removed by the supervisory body of the institution, the Agriculture Research Council of Nigeria, and replaced by the Head of the Department of Animal Health and Production, Dr Albert Fadiyimu.

It was gathered that Moyinjesu was removed because of some alleged infractions involving the finances of the college.

Not satisfied with the development, members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, FECA chapter, on Monday staged a protest against the decision of the ARCN.

The chairman of the association, Mr Abimbola Ogunyinka, demanded the reason why the former acting provost was removed by the supervisory board.

Speaking with journalists on the development, the spokesman for the FECA Governing Board, Benson Enikuomehin, said the sacking of the former acting provost was in order.

He alleged that Moyinjesu committed some financial infractions during his reign as the acting provost.

Enikuomehin stated, “As a member of the governing board, I have the authority of the chairman of the board to speak on the matter. The immediate acting provost of the institution committed a number of infractions.

“The board, at various meetings, cautioned, reprimanded and advised him. But if we had done all we could to caution him and the man did not yield, the next thing was to report him to our supervisory body, which is the ARCN.

“When these infractions were becoming too embarrassing, I raised a memo to the board that if we did not do anything about the matter, the board might sink with him if eventually an anti-graft agency of government came to look into our activities, and that it was better for us to be proactive and do the needful on the matter.”

On the allegation that Fadiyimu was a junior officer and should not be the acting provost of the institution, Enikuomehin said the ARCN could appoint anybody found competent and qualified among the senior officers of the college to be the acting provost, but not the substantive provost.
