Chairman of Ghana’s National Electoral Commission Wins International Award Electoral Democracy in Africa The Chairman of Ghana’s National Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has won the 2010 Joe C. Baxter Award for being an outstanding pioneer of Electoral Democracy in Africa. The award is presented annually by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) to professionals whose work epitomizes the mission of IFES—to promote citizen participation, transparency, and accountability in political life and civil society. The achievement of Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan should be a challenge to Prof. Attahiru Jega, the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, who is determined to conduct credible elections in 2011, but he has accused the Presidency and National Assembly of frustrating his efforts. http://www.247nigeria.com/chairman-of-ghanas-national-electoral-commission-wins-international-award |
