Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has attacked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after gunmen invaded the party’s governorship primary early Wednesday.

The venue of the primary, Lokoja Confluence Stadium, was invaded by gunmen during the sorting of votes around 1:45 am, Igbere TV reports.

Reports say the officials had counted votes in eight out of 10 ballot boxes before the invasion.

Aspirants, delegates and others scampered for safety following the shooting.

Chairman of the electoral committee, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, also escaped harm.

Bello, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 16 election, said in a statement on Wednesday by his chief press secretary, Muhammed Onogwu, that he was disappointed at the ‘unholy’ incident.

The statement said: “The governor remonstrated with the opposition PDP for failing to keep the law, especially as the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) which is the governor’s party had demonstrated less than a week ago that such events can hold without unwelcome incidents of any kind.

“The Kogi State helmsman who said details of the shooting were still sketchy noted that the gunfire incident may not be unconnected with the usual do-or-die politics of some of the opposition aspirants whose desperation to win at all costs has led to so violence and crises in the state, including this one.

“The governor directed the security agencies to get to the roots of the matter immediately, declaring that it portended grave danger to the state’s gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 16. He promised to update the public as soon as he has been fully briefed by the law enforcement agencies.”

On the unfortunate disruption of the PDP primaries in Lokoja Township Stadium yesterday, the Kogi PDP only hastily dragged the name of GYB into what was masterminded and executed from within themselves.
Impeccable sources who were present at the venue of the primaries revealed the fact of the truth:

• The stadium was heavily protected with armed policemen with their vans parked across both entrances to the stadium. No thug from anywhere found their way into that stadium. Tell yourselves the truth and shame the devil.

• The gunshots at the primaries was not by thugs from anywhere, but by the same security forces at the stadium who were meant to protect the delegates. In other words, the police is complicit in this matter. It was the mouse which they depended on the protect their collective pieces of fish that corroded and devoured the fish.

• Before the gunshots started, one of the floodlights in the stadium went off. The gunshots started from the dark spot where the light went off. A good number of policemen were on that part of the stadium. Did anyone gave instruction or instigated them to shoot? The PDP should investigate.

• As the shooting was going on, apart from the police security attached to Governor Fintiri of Adamawa State who came to conduct the primaries who engaged in counter gunshots, all other policemen there stood and watched the show. They never acted. Is it that they had the knowledge of what was happening? This should be investigated.

You guys should be truthful to yourselves. Nobody bought over nor bribed any thugs nor police to attack and disrupt the primaries. The Kogi PDP should check among themselves. The show was not going somebody's way and he decided to wreck havoc.
I make so bold to say the criminal is within.

Who is the chief Security officer of the state? Are u aware that the attack happened in the state capital, right under the nose of the governor ?
