UMANAH CONDEMNS XENOPHOBIC ATTACK ON NIGERIANS

...Urges FG to find lasting solution to the diplomatic assault

As the raging xenophobic attack against foreign nationale in South Africa continues to dominate global conversations, the member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Umanah has risen in condemnation of the recurrent dastardly attack on innocent Nigerians and their businesses.

Fielding questions from journalists in Abuja over the sad occurrence, the National Assemblyman who regretted the attack on Nigerians wondered how legitimate foreigners who have contributed immensely to the South African government through taxes, services and innovations could be dealt such cruelty by their hosts.

Extending his condolences to the Nigerian community in South Africa and families that have suffered any form of loss in the wake of the renewed hostilities, Umanah who described the attack as an abuse of the existing diplomatic ties between both nations, made a case for government at all levels to put an end to the needless attacks.

The federal lawmaker in communicating the feeling of the nation conveyed the optimism of members of the 9th National Assembly at considering ways of putting an end to further harassment of Nigerians living and transacting businesses around the world, by strengthening laws governing the nation's foreign policies.

On the response of the Nigerian government to the crisis, he highlighted the need for individuals within and outside government to personally reach out to Nigerians in such troubled areas and assist those who require assistance, while urging President Muhammadu Buhari to work on curbing a repeat of such diplomatic assault on Nigeria.

Promising the readiness of his office to offer needed assistance, he noted with delight that none of his constituent was affected in the attack, going by his personal phone calls and information gathered from reliable Nigerian- Union Liason, while calling on people of Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in South Africa to be security conscious while going about their lawful businesses.
