I thought jumping to PDP will make him a good leader. He was hailed and embraced by all the moment he left APC. In my opinion he feared that he would not be reelected if he continue with the broom so he jumped under the umbrella and got the nod. Nigerians would not learn until they realize that PDP =APC and politicians are our common enemies.

BafanaBafana:
Protesting Benue State pensioners on Sunday held a prayer session at the Government House’s gate, Markurdi, over unpaid N25bn pension arrears and gratuities.

A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria who monitored the prayer session organised by Concerned Pensioners, reports that the senior citizens had, since September 4, been sleeping under rain and sunshine at the gate to drive home their demand.

NAN reports that the pensioners are demanding payment of over 20 months’ pension arrears and gratuity, amounting to N25bn owed them by the state government.

Reading from the Bible in the book of 1st Kings, chapter 12, verses 3 to 10, while preaching a sermon, Pastor John Awaodi urged the pensioners not to give up hope.

He said that God was with them since they were demanding their legitimate income.

Addressing the pensioners at the prayer session, their Leader, Mr. Peter Ikyado, said they were not tired and would continue to sleep at the gate until paid.

Ikyado urged them to be steadfast and pray fervently.

He earlier told newsmen that over 500 pensioners in the state had died due to lack of food and proper medication.

“We are senior citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Our motto says, ‘Enjoyment After Retirement,’ but in this case, it is suffering after retirement,” he said.

Gov. Samuel Ortom had, while addressing the pensioners on Friday, said that his administration would have to seek an overdraft of N611m to be able to complete the shortfalls from the April 2018 and May 2018 unpaid pension arrears.

He gave the assurance that the money would be paid by September 10.

Ortom said that his administration inherited unpaid pension arrears of over N34bn, with outstanding gratuities of over N17bn.

He said that although his administration was able to make significant efforts in the payment of the arrears of pensions and gratuities, the government was still owing over N20bn.

He said that his administration also moved a step further by signing into law the PENCOM Bill and constituted the state Pensions Commission in an effort to find lasting solutions to the non-payment of pension and gratuities.

Ortom apologised to the senior citizens for the inability of the government to pay their entitlement as and when due.

The governor said that the government was working to get a N40bn bond to address some of the challenges facing the state.

NAN reports that the pensioners have, however, refused to move away from the government house in spite of the governor’s promises.

While some state governments are trying their best in the payment of pension and gratuity, some are busy pilling it up. What these defaulting state governments fail to understand is that these pensioners are old and worn out and need the assistant of the government of the day which in any case they are legitimately entitled to and not benevolence.
Those at the helm of affairs today will be pensioner tomorrow. Most if not all the pensioners are those who even at the time they are working, their salaries cannot even sustain them not to talk of savings. They have no access to state funds and some were very upright in the discharge of their duties.
Fighting corruption should begin with paying pension and gratuity as at when due. That is the LONG time solution couple with the present approach

The trick he used to deceive the world. It is only people living outside the state and a few dumb people within the state who fell for his stunt. I will continue to say that Ortom is by far the worst governor we've ever had. If only you know how Benue politics operate then you will know the stupid reason he was reelected.

Embraced by all is stretching the fact about the reaction to Fulani herdsmen harassing Benue people under Buhari's protection or at best passivity.
Otherwise the part about PDP = APC is true since the people are not involved with their own money and time in the political process.
Will we ever get wise

Pension is a right not a privilege. Any government that refuses to pay workers that have toiled for years and now want to reap from where they sowed deserves whatever that's coming.

The worse is that they have developed a culture of not paying not until something drastic happens.

What is pension? During the working age, government deducts a certain percentage of your salary promising to use it to pay you pension on retirement.

When you now retire, that's when you know that government is a monster. Some governors loot the money, share it among their numerous wives and concubines while leaving our aged parents to suffer.
Many of these old people died on the queue on unendless verifications that have already been done while they were active just to ensure they died and never asked for the money.

The most painful aspect is that it is nationwide. It has become a norm for government to withhold pensions.

In China, they would have been executed publicly because this is a case of financial and economic misappropriation.

I said it countless thread back then that the Ortom is only using the havoc for his political gain since he has no achievement to campaign with.
Nigeria politician are heartless.

seunfly:
OK ooo, I hope it is not because of APC again?
When someone told me orthom knew about the so called Fulani killings in his state, I questioned the person's sanity, however the way the killing disappeared after his re-election made me think twice.

The next round of fulani killings in benue state will be towards the end of his tenure so that he can see some to campaign since their is no infrastructure to point to.
