APC Nigeria in a new tweet has written about the wide spread of fake news across social media platforms. In the first tweet, they quoted Wikipedia, "On Twitter, false tweets have a much higher chance of being retweeted than truthful tweet".

Further more, they advised social media users to research more before they spread false news online, they wrote "Fake news has the tendency to become viral among the public. With the presence of social media platforms like Twitter, it becomes easier for false info to diffuse quickly. Research has found that false political information tends to spread "3 times" faster than other false news."

Okay. False news like the FUOYE students murdered by the trigger happy security cops abi?

Thank God for social media and camera phones. You will not see the news of those murders in the mainstream media and it would have been buried there and then, even denied by the state government as fake news.

But when the evidences started flying right and left in the cyberspace, the incontrovertible videos, audios and pictures, the governor had no choice bur to come on air to do damage control and instruct that the officers responsible be brought to justice.

The social media: The new conscience of the common man, ever since the mainstream media has been dead to its own conscience.

Validated:

Do you mind them? Karma is retweeeting their fake news and they are complaining. You forgot all you said about Jonathan in the last 5 years.

So it is still about GEJ, even for the fact that most of those things he was accused of are true? Haven't you moved on already from the loss? Even GEJ himself has moved on with life.

Now back to APC mata.
Channels, AIT, the printed media and indeed most traditional media outlets filter out news that may pitch them against the government in power. The social media is about the only remaining tool for the common man to propagate news, so why try to muzzle that if not a dictatorial attitude? Even the traditional media lies to us every time, being influenced by the government, so they should not bad mouth the social media as the bad gut here simply because it is outta their reach to influence in their favour.

That's the price we have to pay for easy access to internet occasioned by smart phones, cheap data and the fact that any tom, dick and Harry with a laptop and internet can open a WordPress blog in less than 10 mins free, pay for cheap ass hosting and domain name and start writing crap as news from the corner of his dilapitated one room apartment.
The worst thing is that so called Nigerian youth, who are supposedly "educated" will swallow such news hook line and sinker, especially where it paints the tribe or political opponents they hate in a bad light.
Shame

Who started the madness that is fake news? Who profited from it and rode on it to power? Who are the people using it to maintain power? APC should answer these questions sincerely.
