Ive been wondering to myself, if we rolled back the clock, what we now call South East was the epicenter of Old Eastern Region of Nigeria, which before regions were created was a trade route and exchange depot of the Old Southern Protectorate, before which was Oil River Protectorate and earlier than that it was a major commercial trade center for Royal Niger Company and its exports of palm oil. This is the earliest of reliable records written on the history of a three-tribal land of Ngwa, Wawa and Awkunanaw and narrated in journals written by White people.

Prior to White settlement, the region itself had long history of relations with its nearby neighbours, Igala, Ogoni, Ijaw, Isoko, Anang, Kalabari, Efik, and so on....

This relationship extended beyond current Cross River State and Eastward into Cameroon tribal areas.

There should be no doubt that a common purpose and a Commonwealth of historical existence and inter-cultural relationships pre-dated the arrival of white man and his erection of a division, an artificial line called boundary, to break and end the cooperation and alliance in trade, defense and culture & history between the people of Ngwa, Wawa and their commonwealth regional brothers, stretching deep into Cameroon.

Is this regional and cross-border commonwealth in the East lost forever, or could it be repaired and recovered?

We notice gradually a coming together of Old provinces in North rebonding to their historical Commonwealth and alliances in Niger, Chad, Cameroon.

Very recently in Republic of Benin the people held a public display and carried portraits of Awolowo and their elites and public figures spoke demanding the government to begin dismantling the border separation between them and their Yoruba Commonwealth in Togo and Nigeria.

Many do not know that the people of Southern Cameroon (English speaking) are in an ongoing armed conflict with the French speaking in the North to demand their freedom. A similar trend we see in South East.

It should be clear that both Northern Nigeria and Northern Cameroon are using the same stick and shared tactics amongst its fulani elites to oppress and suppress its South region.

There is no doubt, Nigeria does not have strong footing left to stand much longer. Those who believed in it survival and unity 20yrs ago are no longer advocating its continuity, today they preach for its restructure or dissection.

All must therefore get its gears ready and quickly find new alliances and cooperatives to fall back on.

As I said, that movement to widen the Yoruba Commonwealth beyond borders started in Benin and is gaining momentum and acceptance in both Nigeria and Togo. Similarly, Fulani is condensing and cooperating its units across West Africa.

What is Igbo waiting on?

Build a cooperative and alliance of your own amongst nations in your immediate region, and even stretch back and recover old cooperatives and cultural interbond between you and cross-border people of Cameroon....who, coincidentally are caught in same struggle as you are.

Inputs welcome from everyone (including Onitsha bridge-head touts) grin grin

The international body can only recommend letting Biafra go, and assign peace negotiators to work with the parent body, Nigeria, into letting Biafra go. Without Nigeria agreeing to it Biafra will not be actualized...but it will remain a hot topic that becomes a lifetime struggle like we have in Israeli/Palestinian, or Morrocco/Saharawi Republic. UK/Ireleand outcome was also long and with bloodletting, including royal blood.

Sudan/South Sudan, that came quick but with plenty bloodletting.

Not all countries will get a quick outcome like South Sudan.

International diplomats are always interested in negotiations to first resolve disputes, if any exist. Then attend to legality of the request. Afterwatd, they remain engaged to see to it that the terms of disengagement is not violated by either side.

Kanu is only harping on legalities. He has not bothered to dialogue on disputes internally amongst leadership in Igboland, disputes between Igbo and its neighbors, disputes between Igbo and other stakeholders where Igbo has capital and landed properties, disputes between Biafra and Nigeria. He seems to think his wish is everyone's command and just making appearances at UN, EU and claiming to be Jew is an automatic tivket to independence. If it were so Israel would have never had to keep seeking protection from developed countries around the world from the present and continous danger sorrounding it.

Kanu also fails to appreciate that he has competition within. The elites of Igboland also want power to rule Biafra. Kanu never fought war, those who fought war he is at odds with and he belittles them and threatens them with violence. Beside the obstacles that come with the territory for a secsession movement, he has created for himself, willingly or unwillingly, an impending and dangerous enemy who may see his Biafra as a direct impediment to everything Igbo....and thus approach international bodies with a counter argument, professing a restructuring, rather than an independence; and bringing Nigerian Authorities to a concession and a truce ahead of Kanu.

We never asked for it nor gave permission to be joined to Nigeria. Why do we need anyone's permission to be severed from Nigeria? When Nigeria's cup is full Yoruba know what to do to tip it over. grin

Restructuring will be okay, and we will make it happen....through progressive and deliverable negotiation, not brash impulsive ego that leads nowhere.

You are right that the international community will only write to Nigeria concerning accepting IPOB calls for Biafra's Independence through a Referendum which will be outrightly rejected by Nigeria.

Unfortunately, you fail to ask yourself if Kanu

1) is aware of the limitations the international community has on the question of Biafra's Independence through a peaceful Referendum

2) has a war plan and even if he does not have one now, might adopt one in the future.

Let me enlighten you a little bit.

One of Kanu's major strength is his ability to face & accept reality when shown by his supporters and antagonists.

Biafrans sooner or later will pick up arms.

BookMark My Words,

When Biafrans pick up arms, they will win.

Kanu has a textbook approach to the whole issue. Im not saying his ideals are wrong. Quite honestly I believe he has a far better chance to coast Biafra to reality but that chance is at risk because Kanu has blindspots that he is not acknowledging.

To acknowledge those blindspots he would need to get on his team people who have credibility to speak and be listened to. Certain people known around the world ought to be on Kanu's team by now. World leaders would wonder why Ngozi Iweala is not on the team, does she not believe in Biafra? Why is Adichie not on his team, does she not believe in Biafra? He is called separatist and secessionist. When people with power join him he would acquire a new term called freedom fighter and with security backing to do espionage on his behalf. These are people that Kanu has belittled and riddled.

This is no time for Ndigbo to fight a war. When fighting a war you always want to make sure that your people have a refuge in case of attacks at home. Where would people fleeing Igboland run to? Nigeria will not be a safe refuge. Youve gone through that before and saw its outcome. Cameroon will not give refuge because they will fear Igbo is coming in to do mercenary warfare in support of Ambazonians.

Drop talk of war bro.

Sir, I am briefed on your request to meet with us and table your grievances against your sovereign state, Nigeria. You are seeking my vote in favor of you separating your nativeland from Nigerian Sovereingty.

I would want first to hear why you feel you no longer belong in Nigeria. Please share the grounds for your differences with the home country.

Sorry for my late response due to my tight schedule

What gives you confidence that the Nigerian military will be able to step an inch on Biafran soil let alone crush Biafrans in the next war.?

Don't forget, the British and Soviet are not coming to rescue the Nigerian state as they did in 1967.
