Last week's Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) ruling, validating the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February election has been greeted with mixed reactions. While agents of APC have hailed the unanimous judgment, describing it as bold, factual, just and victory for democracy, members and sympathizers of the PDP have rejected the ruling, calling on the PDP and Atiku to approach the Supreme Court.

PDP agents had claimed at several times that the decision to approach the court in the first place was because the Buhari administration had failed in its first term. They marshaled fresh agenda that would in their words "give Nigeria a breadth of fresh air". They listed their priorities to include Restructuring, fighting of corruption, revitalization of the economy and addressing insecurity. Atiku had himself clearly explained these issues while appearing at the presidential debate.

If these issues listed above constituted the tonic that drove the PDP to tribunal and now the Supreme Court, then Atiku and the PDP can now go and rest as Buhari is handling them squarely already.
One of the major issues that agitated the minds of South-West, South-East and South-South before the election was RESTRUCTURING. Today, Buhari has successfully granted Local Government financial autonomy, the South-West is establishing regional security outfit to combat kidnapping, banditry and herdsmen violence, and efforts toward reviewing the current revenue sharing formula are being intensified.

In the economy, the President has dissolved the erstwhile Economic Management Team headed by Osinbajo and put in place Advisory Council comprising economists of high repute including Charles Soludo, and the Rewane of this world. The Minimum Wage is almost being implimented and plucking of leakages has continued across all government agencies.

In the fight against corruption, the government was accused of engaging in one-sided fight, targeting opposition. Now the case has changed. Buhari's former SGF was sacked and is being prosecuted. His Minister of Finance resigned. His Special Adviser, Obono-Obla has been sacked and prosecution is underway. Saraki, a Senate President was prosecuted. Some APC senators including Dariye are in jail. Former governors including Okorocha are being investigated.

On insecurity, the National Livestock Transformation Plan has been inaugurated to address the incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen and regional security forces are being approved to encourage community policing. Funds are also being voted to the sector for purchase of equipment.

On infrastructural development, railways are being pursued vigorously, billions was approved for 14 crucial highways last week and the government has signed a deal with Siemens to upgrade electricity generation to 11, 000 mw by 2023.
If these and many more represent what the PDP wants for the country, then they should join hands with the government to move the country forward. Distracting Buhari may adversely affect the deliverables.
