Those federal universities are too rich and like state govts they need white elephant projects with which they would tunnel their allocations to private pockets.

There was an airport in the masterplan of OAU. Some people pocketed the money.

It is the same thing with the swimming pool which should have been built many years ago but was built only around 2014 because of NUGA.

It is an airport. It has been in the masterplan all along.

I heard that it should have been built but some people pocketed funds meant for the project. Ordinary swimming pool facilities for games, OAU did not construct until they had to host NUGA in 2014.

The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, on Monday disclosed plans to build an airport within the campus of the institution soon.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Eyitope, dropped the hint at the 2019 Faculty of Technology International Conference, held at OAU ICT Park recently, saying that the airport would serve as training ground for the planned aeronautic programme of the university.

“This idea was contemplated some years ago. Now we are very serious with it. We have the drawings in place and the land has been earmarked. Everything that we need for the airport and to start the programme is ready.”

In his keynote address, themed, ‘Diversification of Developing Economies: Imperatives for Sustainable Environment and Technological Innovations’, Prof Oluwatoyin Ashiru said ideas are abundant in Nigeria but the framework transform the ideas into reality.

Stressing that ideas abandoned in the country thrived in other countries of the world, Ashiru noted that the difference between Nigeria and other countries is the level of commitment and dedication to its development.

I dont agree with you sir. The problem is not the curriculum, the problem is the Method of Lecturing. Covenant has the same curriculum as OAU and other Federal Universities but the method of Lecturing is different. Also, there is the problem of bureaucracy in our Federal Universities coupled with students who have very weak backgrounds.

Misplaced priority.

With the monumental deacy of basic infrastructure, the only thing the VC could think of is to build an Airport.
so my question is who are those to use the facility -- the poor students who depend on their parents for feeding allowance or the underpaid lecturers who spent have of the year academic calendar on strike.

Forget past glories. Those structures you see on that campus were built many years ago.
I know some new ones are being built but how many and can you compare them?

But this one thing I'm 100% certain of - the curriculum of our universities differ...alot. Trust me on that sir. Covenant's curriculum isn't the same as Unilorin's.

If this were to be true, NUC would NOT approve some programmes. All universities in this country run on the NUC approved curriculum. If they dont, NUC would disaccredit the afffected courses.
