Lionel Messi beat Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to the 2019 The Best FIFA Men's Player award. But was it a deserved triumph for the Argentine? He scored 51 goals in 49 matches between LaLiga Santander, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, along with 21 assists. Not only was he the Golden Shoe winner, but he was also the top scorer in last season's Champions League. Is there a more objective stat and a more decisive stat in the sport that that of goals? This is the same debate we have every year and I'll always say the same thing. Titles depend on the collective and awards like The Best and the Ballon d'Or are for individual performances. As much as it might not sit well with some, Messi was undoubtedly the best in this sense. Messi had another Messi year. He was the best player at Barcelona and in LaLiga Santander, there's no doubt. But football, as far as I know, isn't an individual sport and I think the debacle of Anfield , the Copa del Rey final defeat and a forgettable Copa America should play a part in this decision. These were three major setbacks that would have completely ruled out any other player from the running. Messi pulls Barcelona forward like nobody else, but his team got to where it got to. On the other hand, Virgil van Dijk was the best player at Liverpool and of the Premier League and he led his team to victory in the Champions League final. I sincerely believe that this shifts the balance towards the Dutch defender

Virgil is a good player, but guy Messi is insane he's on another level beyond any other player he set his standard so high. Messi was individually the best player of the UCL he's the top scorer, most assists, most player of the week, most free kick goals, and goal of the tournament. Messi was individually the Best player of La Liga he dominated all the stats which I can't even mention all, He also individually dominate Europe, He has the most goals in Europe, most assist,.most free kicks and he even IFFHS playmaker of the Season. The list is endless, Messi is extraterrestrial this is his game this is what he came to earth to do and he's doing it with pleasure, Messi has no competitor. 2 Likes |
