A 28-year-old man, Temitope Ajayi, was on Monday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his four-year-old son, Olalekan.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olubu Apata, told the court that Ajayi beat the four-year-old son to the extent of inflicting injuries on his body for allegedly defecating on his (the father’s) body.

The defendant is facing a count of assault.
Apata said, “The defendant committed the offence on September 18 in Ilupeju-Ekiti. The defendant assaulted his four-year-old son, Olalekan Ajayi, because he defecated on him.

“The defendant beat his son, which led to serious bruises on his body. The offence contravenes Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”

Temitope pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant him bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Awosika said the surety must be a blood relation of the defendant and adjourned the case till October 24 for hearing.
