The president had earlier in the day admitted to withholding military aid money to Ukraine before putting a call across to the country's president, a call within which he asked his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate the business dealings of joe Biden's son when Biden was the VP.

I beg to disagree with your last paragraph. There mustn't be a CONSENSUS before an impeachment trial is set in motion. If there is sufficient ground to believe the president has violated the law, say with respect to bribery, stealing, unlawfully using his influence or other misdemeanors, an impeachment enquiry can be instituted against him.

Guess what more, the motion for impeachment passes in the lower House by a SIMPLE MAJORITY. In the senate, it needs 2/3 anyway.

It doesnt look good for Trump in the House, especially this coming on the heels of the Muler investigation, but I really dont see it getting past the Senate.
