Abama/Ariam; Over 300 Yrs Of Meaningless War, Time To Call A Truce. by Tonway(m): 2:08am On Sep 25, 2019
From Generation to generation, over 300 years now, the people of Abama, an Annang community in Obot Akara LGA of Akwa Ibom state have been engaged in one of the fiercest and longest war with their Ariam neigbours, an Igbo community in Ikwano LGA of Abia state. The war is an age long war that started as long when the two communities started existing where they find themselves as their respective ancestral homes. It precedes and defied the colonial era, it defied the military government and every government of the country, still with no end on side. The war has now been termed generational war, if not that we’re not a country and the press is not reporting the destructions and carnages resonating from this war, we would have made it to the Guinness book of record as the longest war, because it is the longest war, a dispute I am not even sure successive generations, including this current one of ours from both sides know the reason we are fighting and have been fighting. We just grow up to know that our community used to fight their community, that’s it, we both stupidly get enlisted and begin to fight each, in continuation of whatever the reason those that started it started it.

There is no generation that is not familiar and hasn’t experienced this war from the both communities, there is no generation that you won’t hear tell-tale stories of their experiences and losses of love ones or neighbors to the war, people going to their farms and just disappeared, lost, gone and never to return or be seen again, days, weeks, months, years, till that generation passes, the story only to be confined to the history of those communities that so so and so so person, the brother, husband, uncle, nephew, cousin and son of “wane”, the sister, wife, daughter, aunt, and cousin “of those people” have been taken, killed, gone missing, all casualties of the war. In the last five years, I have lost an uncle to the senseless, meaningless and stupid war, and trust my people, the people of Abama, we like the proverbial Cricket that knows her way with and never blinks to the sand, we might not have so much money or rich people outside the state, or perhaps outside the country sponsoring the war like our opponent, the people of Ariam, whom we heard vowed to chased us out and away from our ancestral home, but take this home, we don’t take no captive, kill one we kill more, one of our people gone missing, we bring in two, three or more for that one. As we lament and live with our loses from the endless foolish war that we have been fighting for generations without even knowing why we are fighting, so you live to tell yours, that is how it is, that is how we were made, it isn’t our fault that you cannot defeat us, the truth is that you cannot chased us away, this is our land, we would never run away and live our land for you, nor for anyone.

But come to think of it, isn’t it time our own generation start considering peace as the legacy to leave behind for the coming generation instead to beget them war? Of what gain has the war been to both of us, than priding our ego that you cannot beat us? Have you been able to take even a potion of our land, nor we yours? Are we not tired of telling stories of the loss of love ones or our compatriots to the stupid war? Let me tell you something, you cannot live in our land even if you succeed in defeating us, which you won’t even be able, no, the deities won’t let you and so believe we too. The best and wise thing to do and the time is now, is to call a truce and end this age long meaningless and foolish war. #LiveAndLetsLive

That's pathetic, hope its resolved. Pooularising the war in the social media spaces, especially press interviews will go a long way at creating awareness and thus government intervention.
On the lighter note, I like your story line but can umdertand you, you state the reason for the war and you still say you don't know the reason, you call for peace and you still justify the vengeance by your people etc. If everyone in your village are like that then the war has not started because you still have a long way to go.

Don't expect me to explain, if you know, you know
