Hello.

The Bible offers more than enough information about angels. There is never any need to resort to visions to know anything about them. Any information about the heavenly realms obtained outside the Bible is very dangerous and almost certain to be false. Even if it were not false, there would be no way to know for sure if it is true if one is not going to restrict themselves to what the Bible says.

1. Their Appearance: In general, angels look like human beings, except for some really striking differences. In Daniel 10:5-6, we see a vision of someone who is almost certain to be an archangel. Clearly, angels have hands and legs and heads and so on just like human beings do - in fact, Daniel says rather pointedly that he saw a vision of a man - but these features look very different than ours do. The angel in that description had a body like a beryl, with a face like lightning, eyes like flaming torches, etc. These are remarkable differences from what is common to man. It is important, however, to note that angels do not have physical bodies like we humans do. They are spirits, not spirits that live in physical bodies like mankind is.

Some angels look different, however. The cherubim (called "seraphim" by Isaiah and "living beings" by John) have four faces, three of which are of different beasts, and six wings where almost no other angel is described as having wings at all (except for the two women in Zechariah 5:9).

2. Different Ranks: There is only one angelic kind, although there were originally nine clans of angels and now six clans and there are different ranks among angels. From the top down, the elect angels are organized into cherubim (there are only four of those), elders (twenty four, four from each clan), archangels (seven, one of which is a special office, the one that Michael occupies), authorities (no specific number in the Bible), powers (also no specific number in the Bible), spirits (rank and file angels, no given number in the Bible). These are all angels. They are neither different kinds of angels nor better or worse angels than one another. All of them are important in God's eyes regardless of their rank. Nonetheless, these are real differences between the angels. The differences are quite pronounced in appearance, for example, when you see that the highest rank looks very different from all the others.

3. Height: This sounds like a very frivolous question, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. The Bible does not say anything about the height of angels, but there is no reason to think that they are exceptionally tall or exceptionally short. Wherever they are described in the Bible, there is the curious lack of reference to their height that suggests that the believer seeing them does not see anything remarkable about their height.

4. Appearance of their wings: As mentioned earlier, only one rank is associated with wings: the cherubim. There are two women described as having wings like those of a stork, so we may consider that there may be other angels who have wings as well, but we cannot say anything about feathers, except for the fact that wings of storks often have feathers, so those women and others like them (if there are) may have feathers too. We don't really know enough to speculate any further than that. The cherubim are said to have wings covered inside and out with eyes, so it may be unlikely that their wings are feathery.

This your fourth point, looks like one of those things I read in one white authors book. Where he said the only place where wings was mentioned in the Bible is that of the "wings of a stork" as you have mentioned here but

Isaiah 6:2 (KJV) Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

It spoke about the seraphims with 6 wings, with 2 they fly, with 2 they cover the feet and with 2 they cover the face... I see a lot of you people who say angels don't have wings always try to dodge this part of the scriptures.

My understanding is that there are SPIRIT BEINGS and they are in classes but our understanding is that all spirit beings are angels which is a popular belief but it is very wrong. I'm still reading and pressing to know which is which. But I have just dropped my views

Hello there.

It's a fair question. The fact that angels do not have a physical body does not mean that they can never be seen or that they cannot experience or affect physical phenomena. The Bible teaches both that they are spirits (Hebrews 1:7) and that they can experience and affect physical phenomena (as your example of the visit with Abraham and Lot later on as well as the rolling away of the stone of the Lord's Tomb and the destruction of Assyrian army in Hezekiah's day all demonstrate).

I got my info from the Bible. That is where I get all my info about such things. I've never seen anything in the Bible about nine choirs of angels.

Hi there.

I don't know what author you mean, but in my post I said that only the cherubim (called "seraphim" or "seraphs" by Isaiah and "living beings" by John in Revelation and Ezekiel) are described as having wings (six of them, in fact). That is besides the two women in Zechariah 5 who may be part of another class of angels that we are not told about in the Bible. I'm not sure then why you appear to suggest that I dodged this part of the Bible.

As for your understanding, the word "angels" is just a term of convenience derived from the Greek "aggelos" (αγγελος). It means "messenger", and originally applied to human beings. It is a word used even for the Lord Jesus in many of His pre-incarnate Old Testament appearances in the Bible. So it does not really define a type of creature. However, it has come to be used exclusively for the race of heavenly spirits that God created before man, so for the sake of simplicity and to avoid confusion, people like me use it too when we teach. I see nothing wrong in such use, since these heavenly spirits are commonly depicted in the Bible as servants running messages for the Lord here on earth, so it is not wrong to consider them messengers.

As for classes of these heavenly spirits, I already shared what I have learned from the Bible with the help of a gifted and prepared teacher here. The elect angels are grouped into cherubim (or cherubs, also called seraphim/seraphs and living beings), elders, archangels, authorities, powers, and spirits (or lords).

The 24 elders in heaven are not angels. They are human. I believe humans can exist in the presence of God if he so allows.

Though I have never seen an angel in their real form before, It's possible I have seen many of them without knowing they were really angels.

Why, because angels don't always appear to humans in their real forms, but could appear in any form that suits their purpose for coming to humans. And this can be backed up by certain instances in the Bible.

This was the reason why the men of Sodom saw them as mere mortals in the instance of Lot, hence their attempt to attack them.

Angels have also appeared to some in a wretched form and as beggars without them knowing that they were actually angels, so whatever way they treated the angels in the form of "beggars" is the way they had unknowingly treated the angels.

So although angels have their real form, they could appear in any form suitable to their mission at hand.

That's why I said i may have met several of them without them appearing in their angelic form, because there are some encounters I have had with some persons that suggested that they were actually angels, even they appeared in the human form.

Thank you.
