Dedetwo:Please be informed! The Jalumi War, also called the Battle of Ikirun, was a battle that took place on 1 November 1878 in the north east of present-day Osun State, Nigeria. It was part of the larger conflict named the Ibadan War. The forces of Ibadan victorious in detail a force of rebellious Yorubas including soldiers from Ilorin, Ekiti, Ila and Ijesha. Despite the victory, fighting continued in the years that followed until the Ilorins were finally defeated in 1897 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jalumi_War Following a jihad (known as the Fulani War) led by Uthman Dan Fodio (1754–1817) and a rapid consolidation of the Hausa city-states of contemporary northern Nigeria, the Fulani Sokoto Caliphate annexed the buffer Nupe Kingdom and began to press southwards towards the Oyo Empire. Shortly after, they overran the Yoruba city of Ilorin and then sacked Ọyọ-Ile, the capital city of the Oyo Empire. Further attempts by the Sokoto Caliphate to expand southwards were checked by the Yoruba who had rallied to resist under the military leadership of the city-state of Ibadan, which rose from the old Oyo Empire, and of the Ijebu city-states. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorubaland And I will be glad if you can provide an evidence of how Igbos halted Fulani invasion at present day kogi! Thanks in advance 1 Like |

RealLordZeus: Did I not mention Osogbo? Yoruba could have won a battle but lost the war. The winning a battle of Ikirun to slow down the Caliphate march to Eko does not amount to anything. Entire present day Kwara State had been lost including all the Yoruba territories that stretched to the present Kogi State. I never wrote that Igbo stopped Caliphate march at Kogi State because the Caliphate had already subdued the people in the areas or made them vassal states of Caliphate. It was the attempt of Caliphate to move into southeast from certain places in present Kogi State that met fierce resistance from Igbo people especially the Akagbe people. By the way, Oye -Ile came before Ilorin in the war path of Sokoto Caliphate. |

madenigga: Ndigbo are not goons to become stranded in their nation state. Have you asked yourself why there is feverish opposition to Biafra? If the opponents of Biafra slightly assumed that Biafrans would be stranded if granted the wish to form a nation state, the opponents which included British would have granted the wish for posterity sake. 1 Like |

The issue in Nigeria is lack of intelligence. The northerners are Arab worshipping Islamic oriented folks but Arabic countries have anti black sentiments. The Southerners are western loving folks who embrace western liberal ideals but in the west there's also a lot of anti black sentiments. Blacks in general want to be everything but themselves. Self hate is the result of a low iq group, because it's easy to socially re engineer the mind of the gullible. |

oilPUSSY: Bro.... to the point of his message... that if united Nigeria can be greater than all the European countries put together.... why is the statement a foolish one? He has given reasons to support his statement.... what reasons do you have to oppose it? Can you focus on the message and not the messenger? 1 Like |

This is very true, an honestly united Nigeria can be and will be greater than almost any country in the world because it means even the leaders will see reasons why Nigeria need to be developed. While i do agree with his comment about government alone can't develop Nigeria, i however, do think the government needs to provide the basic things such as constant electricity, good roads, operational and equipped health facilities and leave the rest to the people to handle. |

That's what separatists do not know. Everyone is looking for numbers to become an economic giant either by controlled internal growth of multilateral states' coalition and some who don't know want to break one of the only few things going for naija. Oil alone can't bring development. Infact it's usually the opposite. For Dubai oil was jist the startup capital to build some of the premium real estates on earth. Saudi has a thriving sovereign fund with investments in citibank to softbank of Japan |

An independence Biafra can always padi up with others for the benefit of all. You ended up twisting history. How did you skip the part of history that detailed the end of their siege on Oshogbo? What about the boundary mark at ASA in Ilorin? This your Akagbe story is new and unfounded. The only blockade to the East were the Yorubas of the West and the Tiv warriors of Benue. Without these formidable forces and the resilient Edo warriors, Igboland would have fallen like a pack of cards. Dedetwo: |

ZZ22: So Nigeria is ''retrogressing with alarming speed''? Mumu. Could your grandfather or great grandfather or mother read or write? Could they travel beyond the nearest town? Did they drive? Did they know what expressway or airport means? Or have phones? Could they start multi million dollar businesses from nothing like Jumia or INNOSON or Dangote? Could they even decide to leave the country for 'greener pastures'? Could they name three advanced countries? Or have any transferable skills they could use abroad? Did they even know the way to the airport? Was there even any airport nearby for them to fly out from? But today YOU have all these things and opportunities in abundance courtesy of INDEPENDENCE and consequent DEVELOPMENT, yet think you have ''regressed alarmingly''. I don't blame you. After all when some people eat too much they turn stupid. |

madenigga: What a silly question! How did the defunct Biafra fund its governance? If, as i'm sure you will soon argue, that we go with 'only our 5 South-East states', you think us collecting 100% from proceeds of FULL oil exploitation in Anambra, Imo and Abia, together with sales from gas exploitation in Anambra and Imo....you think this wouldn't amount to at least 2 Billion Dollars per annum? As we speak, is the South-East collecting anything close to 2 Billion Dollars per annum from federal allocation? What of Diaspora remittances? Each year Nigeria receives nothing less than 22 Billion Dollars from Dispora remittances, of which a conservative estimation of the Igbo component in this would be about 7 Billion Dollars! Now, with a focused and sustained campaign, i'm certain the new Biafra republic can create a development pool of funds where say at least 1 Billion dollars of this Diaspora remittances could be channelled per annum! Don't forget that with a new independent Biafra nation, IGR would increase as we would be in control of our own airports, railways, customs, VAT, river ports, tourism, etc! We would be the beautiful bride as (assuming they don't join Biafra) cities like Uyo, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Yenagoa would be eager to cut a deal with us regarding seaport access! Go and read up how Djibouti is gaining billions of dollars from its partnership with Ethiopia, its landlocked neigbour! Just go to YouTube and type in Djibouti Ethiopia seaport and see how Djibouti is gaining from its bilateral economic agreements with its giant neighbour. We can also get loans on favourable terms from the World Bank and other international monetary and financial institutions to finance critical infrastructure like world-class, kickass airports in Enugu, Owerri, Abakaliki and Onitsha; a spanking new high-speed and cargo railway line...extending to one or two seaports of our choice; highways; agriculture; etc. So you see, finding funds for governance would be the least of our problems! We are Igbos, and we see opportunities and a challenge where others see obstacles and doubt! 1 Like |
