Balewa....Sayawa tribe (not Hausa)
Gowon: Angas. (not Hausa).
Muritala Muhammed (Hausa).
Buhari (Fulani)
IBB (Gwari...not Hausa).
Abacha (Kanuri not Hausa).
Abubakar (Nupe).
Yaradua (Fulani).

Add the fact that back at the dawn of INdependence, Awo offered a coalition to Azikiwe's NCNC...which was rejected. (not that there was anything wrong with that...NCNC going into coalition with NPC was good)...but the thing is, political power is by alliances, and by alliances.

When Southerners are busy fighting among themselves, what do you expect. Plus, if Nzeogwu had not been so reckless to organise a coup (and no, it was not an Igbo coup)...instead of going into politcs, forming a party, and advocating his position...things might have been much different.
He said Northerners, all these people you mentioned are from the north...

But Nzeogwu, a man i admired most gave life, wide reach to the coup. He assasinated the top most Northerner and spiritual leader of Nigerian muslim. It was an aberration. Even the British despite conquering Benin Empire refused to elicit such hatred of the Binis by not executing the Oba. Going by ur statement, same could be argued Buhari didnt organise the coup that ousted Shagari.

The events of January 1966 and the coup of 1983 are two distinct scenarios, and hence should not be compared. Perhaps, you have been misinformed.

He wanted a big country, now we have big tribalism, big religious bigotry, big poverty, big potholes, big unemployment, big crime, big terrorism, big hunger, big northern domination, big marginalisation, big corruption, poor educational standards, poor healthcare big- almost-everything-bad! angry

Shut up!

Zik has played his part...right or wrong! Question is, what are you doing to get things right....that is besides sitting on your fat, bigoted ass in front of your laptop and having a go at the long dead!

Plz educate me more cos i read widely about both coupists. As per the Dec. 31 '83 coup, many still affirmed till date that PMB was only invited to lead the govt after successful toppling of the democratic govt, cos he was d most senior military officer then. You may disagree...

That's exactly what they want you to belief. I'm sure you have also read that Aguiyi Ironsi was invited and power handed over to him by Nwafor Orizu, because the civilian government was scared shitless.

Rubbish!

If you think the power-hungry and bigoted Buhari was sat at home, minding his business and drinking kunu...totally oblivious to the drama unfolding around him, and was only made aware of the coup after they had successfully toppled the Shagari regime....if you think this was what happened then you're the most naive fella ever to come out of 'one Nigeria'!

When listing Heads of State, it's wrong to mention Zik and Tafawa-Balewa at the same time b'cos there can only be one Head of State at any given time! Azikiwe should not be on the list because he was a inconsequential President at the time! Tafawa-Balewa was de-jure Head of State while Ahmadu Bello was de-facto!

let's call a spade a spade! They only mention Azikiwe so it wouldn't look like Igbos haven't led Nigeria since 'independence'! There's even question marks over the Yoruba Heads of State in the persons of Obasanjo and Shonekan! Since 'independence' Nigeria has by-and-large been ran aground by the core muslim north! This is not to absolve christian southerners of blame....but the part they've played in this nightmare has largely been that of enablers...either by omission or commission!
