No need trying to put water in basket....we might have differing opinions. Nevertheless, happy independence celebration. May you prosper despite economic challenges we have today.
Amen, I wish you same.

Major Streets in the Federal Capital Territory including the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua express way are wearing new looks with the National Flags and the Portraits of past Presidents adorning the streets

Wrong crowd wrong people, whose head does not fit the cap. Nigeria is in this mess today because of this usurpers who do not allow the real leaders to benefit from the fruit of their labour. the Labour of our heroes past has now been in vain because of them all. Lock up your conscience if that is not the truth.

I saw them on my way to berger but I must comment about the decorations close to the city gate, they are shoddy and lack luster, we can do better pls

Balewa....Sayawa tribe (not Hausa)
Gowon: Angas. (not Hausa).
Muritala Muhammed (Hausa).
Buhari (Fulani)
IBB (Gwari...not Hausa).
Abacha (Kanuri not Hausa).
Abubakar (Nupe).
Yaradua (Fulani).

Add the fact that back at the dawn of INdependence, Awo offered a coalition to Azikiwe's NCNC...which was rejected. (not that there was anything wrong with that...NCNC going into coalition with NPC was good)...but the thing is, political power is by alliances, and by alliances.

When Southerners are busy fighting among themselves, what do you expect. Plus, if Nzeogwu had not been so reckless to organise a coup (and no, it was not an Igbo coup)...instead of going into politcs, forming a party, and advocating his position...things might have been much different.
Murtala is also a Fulani. Swap IBB's Gwari with Abubakar's Nupe.
Thank you

zik was blackmailed into alliance with the north due to some loans he took from ACB then.
the british wanted the north in power so progressives like awolowo and zik and counterproductive to british plans for nigeria.
the british prefer the conservative and feudal north to be in charge.
the british decides what we sell as they ordered obasanjo to abandon ajaokuta steel citing that its too much economic power for a black nation to possess crude and steel at the same time.
they decided that we farm what they termed cash crops and abandon food crops which would feed our populace.they needed the cash crops such as palm oil and groundnuts but we needed food crops more.
the british advised the northern elites to impoverish their masses so that the few would control the rest and in so doing perpetuate themselves in power ruling for the british.
this is 2019 but in 2023 the candidate that will take over from buhari must be a london certified boy.
the british hated awolowo because of his aggressive progressive government which intended to make impotent two british weapons which are poverty and illiteracy, awolowo granted free education and the western region had a better pay for civil servants then while armadu bello was busy entrenching almajiri system in the north, awolowo came campaigning with free education in the north.
zik and tafawa are the two greatest evil that happened to nigeria.
these two officially sold nigeria, then both of them started fighjting awolowo with akintola,i believe the british advised them to do so,they cut out the midwest from the western region, rigged election against awolowo and when he protested, they charged him for treason and landed him in prison.
but as an igbo that believed in awolowo's progressive idea,my problem with him is that when the opportunity to end this wickedness came to him on a platter,,he gave life to the wickedness to grow.
like in lord of the ring, when isidore had the opportunity to destroy the ring but out of greed decided not to.

Kanuri people are from Bornu state. But Abacha is from Kano State. Perhaps which state is now Hausa by default?

Migration rate in the north is very high. Very high.

Let me agree with your assertion on Zik. He was politically sophisticated slowpoke for sacrificing his Life and particularly, his Igbokwe nation for "One Nigeria" which never existed and will never be.
Using your logic of reasoning, why did Awolowo repeat the "One Nigeria" political miscalculation of Zik when he aligned with the North in the Nigeria - Biafra War to sustain the same northern-dominated "One Nigeria"?

Why did he not support Ojukwu in restructuring Nigeria through Aburi Accord or allowing Biafra her independence by refusing to join Gowon and the North to fight Biafra?

Why did Awolowo repeat in 1967, a worse variant of the political mistake Zik made in 1953?

quote author=naijadrivablog post=82729885]I blame late Zik of Africa Zungeru. If only he listened to late Awolowo.

He wanted a big country, now we have big tribalism, big religious bigotry, big poverty, big potholes, big unemployment, big crime, big terrorism, big hunger, big northern domination, big marginalisation, big corruption, poor educational standards, poor healthcare big- almost-everything-bad! angry
