...flags off 2nd Batch Skill Acquisition Programme for Youths

The people of Eket Senatorial District, on Wednesday, went into frenzy, as the Senator representing the District, Dr Akon Eyakenyi, opened her Constituency Office, three months after her election.

The office located at number 106 Liverpool Road, Eket, was commissioned by the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, represented by his Deputy, Mr Moses Ekpo.

Speaking at the event, Senator Eyakenyi appreciated God for His love and protection throughout the electioneering period and also thanked Governor Emmanuel and Wife, Martha, for their unalloyed support which she noted, translated into her landslide victory at the polls.

While thanking the people for entrusting her with their cherished mandate, the Senator pointed out that the Constituency Office was opened to serve as an interface between her and her constituents.

She stressed that the office was not a "fulfilment of all righteousness", but a platform that will help her offer a better deal to her people and urged them to make good use of the facility.

While promising to be available and accessible to her people, the erstwhile Minister announced the launch of her official website, www.senatorakoneyakenyi.com, adding the site will not only promote the rich cultural heritage of Eket Senatorial District, but will also ensure she is constantly in touch with her constituents, digitally.

The Senator who also flagged-off the second batch of her Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Programme, urged the trainees to take the opportunity seriously, pledging she will champion more laudable programmes for the betterment of her constituents.

She announced that graduands of the Skill Acquisition Programme will be formed into Corporatives that will enable them access grants to start up their businesses.

In his speech, Governor Udom Emmanuel, represented by his Deputy, Mr Moses Ekpo, while congratulating the people for their choice of Senator Akon Eyakenyi, urged the Senator to always consult widely, in order to fulfil her social contract with the person, effectively.

He said the opening of the Office was significant and expressed optimism that it will aid the Senator to offer effective representation to the people.

In their goodwill messages, former Deputy Governor, Sir Etim Okpoyo, Senator Etang Umoeyo and Atuekong Abako, who spoke on behalf of Oron, Eket and Ikot Abasi
Federal Constituencies, respectively, showered encomiums on Senator Eyakenyi and opined that she will reposition the District for the better, in the next four years.
