By James Bishop -October 15, 2016

A study on the disciplines of anthropology, psychology, and philosophy from 57 academics in 20 countries around the world suggests that thought processes are “rooted” to religious concepts.

The £1.9 million project at Oxford University found that children below the age of five found it easier to believe in some “superhuman” properties than to understand human limitations. The children were asked whether their mother would know the contents of a closed box.

Three-year-olds believed that their mother and God would always know the contents, but by the age of four, children start to understand that their mothers were not omniscient.

Dr Barrett claimed anthropologists have found that in some cultures children believe in God even when religious teachings are withheld from them.

“CHILDREN’S NORMALLY AND NATURALLY DEVELOPING MINDS MAKE THEM PRONE TO BELIEVE IN DIVINE CREATION AND INTELLIGENT DESIGN. IN CONTRAST, EVOLUTION IS UNNATURAL FOR HUMAN MINDS; RELATIVELY DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE.”

Other separate research from China suggested that people across different cultures instinctively believed that some part of their mind, soul or spirit lived on after death. According to Professor Roger Trigg, co-director of the project they “have gathered a body of evidence that suggests that religion is a common fact of human nature across different societies.”

“This suggests that attempts to suppress religion are likely to be short-lived as human thought seems to be rooted to religious concepts, such as the existence of supernatural agents or gods, and the possibility of an afterlife or pre-life.”

What does this mean?

This means that people are not “born atheists.” Belief in God is not something we learn throughout life or through cultural indoctrination, and it’s not something we adopt out of youthful imagination. It’s something we are born with.

Not only are people naturally dualistic in how they think about body and spirit, they are also hardwired to believe in God. What is the best explanation of this?

the reason for this is fear. human beings are afraid of the unknown, thus believing in anything so long as it gives them hope.

afraid of stories such as hell fire that they are told right from infancy. hence, they have no choice but to believe in a God.

The children you're talking about, did grow up by themselves or were they brought up by religious parents? plus did they grow up in a religious environment or in environments were nobody ever talks about God??

'Dr Barrett claimed anthropologists

This is what you're calling a scientific research, just someone's unfounded claim? the truth is that when it comes to religion, children are basically influenced by their parents and the environment they grow up in. the research carried out above is hogwash.

at three years old how did the children know that God is omniscient if they have not been told by their parents?

There's no real evidence to suggest that religion is hardwired – it's just wishful thinking on the part of religious academics
