An opinion poll conducted by Independent Electoral Network into the 2011 presidential election has indicated that President Goodluck Jonathan is ahead of other aspirants.

A statement by the Coordinator of Africa Election Monitors in Nigeria, Ossissam Mwake, and made available to THE PUNCH in Lagos on Tuesday, said Jonathan was leading other aspirants in 27 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the result of the opinion poll was compiled from questionnaires that were administered on Nigerians of voting age in the 36 states and the FCT.

The statement added that Jonathan took the lead in the five states in the South-East –Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia and Imo.

In the South-South, he led in Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Cross River states but lost in Edo State to General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.).

In the North-Central, Jonathan was ahead in Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau and Kogi states, while Governor Bukola Saraki took the lead in his home state, Kwara, just as Babangida got Niger State.

Jonathan was said to have been endorsed in the six South-West states – Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Lagos.
