Senate Questions Security Funds’ Spending

Senate President Ahmad Lawan yesterday declared that the Senate must know how the security agencies utilise funds received. Lawan declared this at senate plenary session while speaking on cases of insecurity along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

He said: “We need to be radical. We need to give them more funds. It is not enough to give them money, we must see how they utilise the money. We need to go back to the report on the ad-hoc committee on security infrastructure. We could go by way of public hearing to review security infrastructure. The way they are, we are not getting the best out of them.” Lawan said the Senate would also insist that security operatives travel by the road rather than join “ordinary” Nigerians in the train because of kidnappers.

He said: “We will also insist that uniform people must not join the train because they are the ones supposed to protect us on the highways,” he said. “The military, police and all these paramilitary agencies should allow ordinary people to use the train. Let them ply the roads because they will clear the road for other road users to go on the road.”

I support this motion,. Just take for instance when ever there is road traffic and there is difficulty in car movement the moment any siren sounds comes up the road clears magically. Even if robbery is going on on high ways the moment the robbers hear siren they enter bush. Equip them with more weapons and advance security gadgets like drones and computer monitor cars,with this the work will be more effective. Peace

only in Nigeria those that are meant to secure and protect others are rather seeking for protection.
every existing police station, military facility and installation are fenced.
you dare not be under chase and head for a police station, you just got yourself killed for before you gain access your assailant would drop you dead.
besides this for themselves not because of the citizens.

Is like u want the security men to be kidnapped too... When a whole chief of army staff will be traveling by rail from abuja to kaduna for fear of being kidnap along abuja kaduna xpress way.. A good development. But someone should help me remind the senate presidentto ask the politicians also to ply our roads as well instead travelling by train. They are the ones that need it the most because that will encourage on how to question the security agencies on how they use the funds give by them.

Senators should also be compelled to travel by road for all official trips. Not that Lawan would be going to Commision a school in Enugu or Damaturu and take a jet.

Was not few weeks ago that a Governor's convoy and security personnel was attacked by bandits.
It takes more than uniform men to pursue these kind of culprits. The motivation and morale of the uniform men must be high to take the risks

Agreed, but politicians should also be banned from air and rail travels. They should be made to travel by land.....to see how useless our roads are so that it can inspire them to rehabilitate these roads. This will certainly make way for "other road users".
Alternatively, they can use the water option, this will encourage them to develop this means of transport and also make our waterways safe for people to use.

If the senate is serious in wanting to help fix the security challenge and other problems facing this country, they should sponsor a law that awards DEATH PENALTY FOR THOSE FOUND GUILTY OF CORRUPTION.

Stop shouting that security funding should be increased when most of it will end up in the pockets of the corrupt top military brass and their political accomplices.

To me they should be given normal vehicles or disguised while they patrol these roads so the kidnappers won't be able this know them. So they can easily be caught
