The list of nominees for the 2019 Headies Award set to hold on the 19th of October has been released. And as usual, it has met with mixed reactions from both nominated acts and music listeners in the country.

Fast-rising star Zlatan Ibile who got nominated in the Headies Next Rated category didn’t take it well. Soon after the nominees were unveiled, he wasted no time to make a lousy statement on his Instagram page.

"We fit they the same school! Mago our department no be the same o! #KELEGBEMOEGBE O Ayiiiiii."

“The minute you think you have to belittle others because you think you’re better than them is the same minute you’ve proven you’re worse.”

~ Joanne Crisner Alcayaga

Quick question: Do you think Zlatan is better than the other artists nominated in the Next Rated category?

Now let’s consider those in the same category as Zlatan.

1. Rema – August 6 2019, saw Rema hit a whopping 50 million streams on all streaming platforms. An incredible feat if you ask me considering the fact he’s only been around for a while.

2. Joe Boy – Rave of the moment Joe Boy sure deserves a place on the list. His songs Beginning and Baby have been instant hits. Last I checked, he’s already got millions of streams to his name.

3. Fire Boy DML – The voice and brain behind such massive joints as Jealous and What if. Fire Boy DML has become a household name in such a short while. He’s also one of the most-streamed acts in the Nigerian music industry today.

4. Victor AD – No one can deny Wetin We Gain was a massive record. The song was a viral hit topping charts around the country. Between late last year and early this year, Victor AD was the proud owner of the biggest song in the country. Since its release in 2018, Wetin We Gain has garnered over 6 million views on YouTube.

5. Lyta – Lyta is having the time of his life with the release of his mesmerizing single Monalisa. To most, he might not seem a strong contender for the prestigious award, but he sure deserves a place on the nominee’s list. Who knows, he might even be the lucky one amongst the Magnificent 6.

Now back to the leg work king. Zlatan has had a successful year apparently. But truth be told, he has little or no major hits of his own. In addition to that, he only became popular last year with the release of Chinko Ekun’s Able God. It’s not even like he’s been in limelight for way over a year.

So tell us Zlatan, how on earth are you in a higher class or department than the other artists on the list?

Don’t forget these are guys whose songs became massive hits with no features.

Zlatan is an amazing talent and I sincerely respect him, but he’s in no way bigger or better than the other acts in that category. I know his fans will say otherwise. It’s allowedsmiley

This year’s Headies Next Rated Category is super-packed with incredible talents. No kidding, every artist nominated in that category deserves the highly coveted prize, but sadly, only one act will emerge the winner.

Who do you think it’s going to be?
