Allegedly “revokes” already sold land and converts same

The Paramount Ruler of Uyo and Chairman Traditional Rulers’ Council (TRC), Uyo His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Okon is reported to be enmeshed in a land grabbing mess involving multiple sales, land grabbing and illegal “revocation”.

Reports have it that owners of undeveloped properties around his domain in Offot Ukwa Clan Nwaniba road axis, Nsukara and parts of Osongama now stand the risk of losing their properties to dubious land agents who are allegedly acting at the behest of the monarch.

One of the victims has taken up the issue with the royal father and demands an immediate vacation of his property. The victim, Mr. Emmanuel Archibong Essien says he bought a plot of land in an area known as Urua Ntia in 2011 and paid the consideration and other accompaniments. He claims that at the time of the purchase in 2011, the monarch who was Clan Head of Offot Ukwa encouraged him to make the payment as the transaction was genuine.

He said few days ago when he visited the plot, he discovered some excavation on the land. Upon enquiries, he was told that the Paramount Ruler would be in the best position to know. His visit to the Paramount Ruler was eye-opening.

The Paramount Ruler pointedly told him he had “revoked” the land and would make a refund of the exact amount he bought the land in 2011 to him.

Our reporter cited a copy of demand letter addressed to the Paramount Ruler and copied to the Commissioner of Police and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Akwa Ibom State dated 3/10/2019 written by Mr. Emmanuel Archibong Essien through his Solicitors, Cardinalli Chambers & Co.

In the letter, the Lawyers expressed “sore embarrassment” at the action of the Paramount Ruler. It reads: “…we are sorely embarrassed that our client is made to go through the present situation at the hands of no less a personality than the Paramount Ruler of Uyo – a supposed father of all!” The letter continued, “That our client has not sold or authorized any person to enter into his property for any reason whatsoever. Any such entrance howsoever authorized is clearly illegal (trespass) and will attract legal consequences.

The Lawyers argued that, “… Paramount Ruler /Traditional Ruler has no powers under any Law in Nigeria to “revoke”, let alone authorize trespass into our client’s plot of land situated in an urban centre.

They concluded that the action of the monarch was “puerile and a desecration of the seat of Paramount Ruler. “Your Royal Majesty, owing to perceived utility value of the Traditional institution in nation and peace building, some of us have been in the forefront of clamouring for specific constitutionally defined roles for Traditional Rulers, and we dare say such contemplation did not include land grabbing, meddlesomeness and such other felonious dispositions seen today.

It has been widely reported that purchase of land in Nwaniba axis of Offot Ukwa Clan is usually a subject of controversy as purchasers are subjected to multiples sales and other dubious tendencies.

All efforts to reach the monarch for his comment failed as enquiries made to his phone were unanswered.

Op what's your aim of dropping this falsehood here, this is defamation of character and a law suit would be jammed down your throat anytime soon.
As for the moderators, you all are biased and partial in your duties which is ruining the reputation of this forum.
Not cool
