THE ORIGIN OF CRYSTAL HEALING
The practice and use of Crystals and Gemstones for healings; and for satisfying the numerous metaphysical and spiritual needs of man dates back to ancient history. It spans thousands of centuries, cultures, religions and philosophies. Throughout human civilization, Crystals and Gemstones have been used by great empires around the World as symbols of power, wealth and ornamentations. But their real purpose and sacred powers transcended their physical beauty.

For centuries, man used Crystals both as ornaments and functionally for medicine, healings, rituals, meditations, protection, offerings, gifts, and currency. In the old Babylonian empire, soldiers, and generals carried amulets made of red stones and crystals for protections and victory at the battlefields. Sailors also carried Aquamarine to calm the high sea and ensure a safe return home. Likewise, Greek soldiers and sailors of the old wore crystal amulets to make themselves invulnerable in battle and to keep them safe at the sea respectively.

Ancient Egyptians used Crystals for protection, power, health, and love. Egyptians used Emerald, Topaz, Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, Amethyst and Lapis Lazuri. The great Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra for instance, was said to have used Amethyst and Rose Quartz rings to seduce two powerful Roman generals, Julius Ceasar and Mark Anthony. Till today, it is believed by Roman women that wearing Amethyst and Rose Quartz would ensure the faithfulness and devotion of their husbands and lovers.

Crystals and Gemstones were mentioned over 200 times in the Bible. In the Book of Exodus 39:10-13, the Bible describes how the breastplate worn by the Leviticus High Priest contained 12 Crystals which include, Turquoise, Lapiz Lazuri, Topaz, Emerald, Sapphire, Diamond, Agate, Amethyst, Beryl, Onyx, Jasper, and Carbuncle.

In the Holy Koran, a Hadith from Imam Ridha states, "Whosoever wears a turquoise ring will never become dependent" (Huliayt Al-Mutaqeen Baqir Al-Majlasi) Also, in Islamic Shia literature, there are numerous ahadith on the benefits of Crystals and Gemstones, including Aqeeq /Aqiq (Agate). Imam Ali Al-Ridha says, "Aqeeq takes away poverty and dissolves differences from one's heart" (Huliayt Al-Mutaqeen Baqir Al-Majlasi) Furthermore, in the book, Islam: The Absolute Truth by Jameel Kermalli, it says, "In Islam, a tradition states that Ali used to wear four rings on his hands- Opal (Yaqut) for beauty and dignity; Turquoise (Feruz) for obtaining Divine help and victory; Hadid Thin for strength, and Carnelian (Aqiq) to protect himself from enemies and all types of misfortune."

In the Middle Ages and Medival Europe, the use of Crystal for healings and protection was very popular. For instance, between 1151 and 1161, the Catholic Nun, Physician, and consultant to the Pope, Saint Hildegard wrote two medical treatises known in English as Book of Simple Medicine and Book of Composed Medicine where she documented the vibrational energies and healing properties of Crystals and their uses.

Furthermore in Rennaisance Europe, in 1232, Hubert de Burgh, the Chief Political and Legal Officer of Henry III was accused of stealing a crystal gem from the King's treasury which would make the wearer invincible and given it to Llewellyn, the King of Wales and Henry's enemy. Switzerland, Belgium, and even Mesopotamia and South America used Crystals in magic formulas, protections, healings; and to raise their vibrations, reduce stress and transform negative energies to positive energies.

The use of Crystals cut across all cultures and religions as stated in the first paragraph. Ancient Sumerian priests had a popular saying, "He who carries with him into battle an amulet of Lapis Lazuli carries with him the presence of God." Tibetan monks used Crystal Quartz as holy objects of great power. In Taoism, Quartz Crystals are called the "Gems of Enlightenment." Alexander The Great wore large collections of Emerald during his numerous battles to ensure victory, while St. Valentine was said to wear rings of Amethyst and Rose Quartz. In ancient India, Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal wore Emeralds which was believed to bring good luck and protection. And in Japan, Quartz Crystals were considered to represent the heart of the dragon which symbolized power and wisdom.

Also in ancient and modern history, Crystals and Gemstones were used to fortify and protect great palaces, temples, castles, sanctuaries, and shrines. In recent times, great pastors and priests adopted the same practices. Modern pastors and priests spend tons of money buying Crystals for use in laying the foundations of their church buildings. I once asked one rich pastor customer of mine why he spends so much money on buying Crystals only to have them buried in the ground. He simply asked me to read the Bible Book of Revelation 21:11, & 18-20, where it states that God's Heavenly City, New Jerusalem is built on foundations of Crystals. The buildings of the walls were of Jasper, Sapphire, Emerald, Chrysolite, Beryl, Topaz, Yellow Quartz(Citrine), Amethyst, etc. The reverend gentlemen specifically told me that the inclusion of Black Tourmaline in all the foundations of his new church branches was because of the unparallelled properties of Black Tourmaline to repel negative energies.

In conclusion, most of the modern practices of the use of Crystals for healings, protections, meditations, manifestations, etc were drawn from ancient traditions which have gained wide popularity in recent times due to experimentations, channeling; and availability of many books on the subject, coupled with the cornucopia of free information on the internet. In fact, sometimes it is useful to understand what a particular stone means, what is its origin. Actually I was looking for more information about sodalite recently as it was gifted to me. It was important to understand what he was for or what he meant
