In Sweden’s two largest cities, the Nigerian mafia Black Ax – a group well-known for performing dark occult rights and rituals – is forcing women into prostitution and selling drugs as a way to help finance their operations.
Since last summer, the African organized criminal group has frequently been the focus of Swedish media after it established itself as a strong force in both Stockholm and Gothenburg. The organization has been known to use voodoo, torture, black magic, and other bizarre occult rituals to scare its victims into submission, SVT reports.
The vulnerable women who have been forced into the sex trade by the group have testified about being tortured and how they are blackmailed into prostitution.
In a recent piece, GT described the group as a “death cult that kills, kidnaps, fights with machetes, and blackmails using black magic.”
In addition to illegal sex trafficking, the organization is also said to be involved in large-scale drugging smuggling and trafficking.
“We have evidence that there are people living in Gothenburg who belong to the Black Ax. It is people who control and organize both drug smuggling and other crimes,” said Pär Eriksson, an investigator at the Customs Crime Unit in Gothenburg.
Exactly how many women have been forced into prostitution by the cult is unclear, but the figure is said to be ‘large’.
“Something that applies to the vast majority of women we have received from Nigeria is that they have got a curse on them that makes them very afraid to leave the human trafficking,” said Andrea, an operations manager for Talita – an organization that assists women to leave prostitution.
“Some have had knife scars on the body, and been subjected to torture,” Andrea added.
Currently, there is a large-scale drug case against several alleged members of Black Ax in Gothenburg. Despite the case, the Customs Crime Unit has said that the mafia continues to operate throughout the city.
