The land borders should remain closed. They’ve done enough damages to Nigeria’s economy already. No country deserve to share borders with a country like Benin republic whose economy is based on smuggling of items to her big neighbor. They should put an end to smuggling and start trading with Nigeria as a responsible country.

Another set of protesters...
Mind you republic of Benin has many Yorubas indigenous to them.
They are same people with the Yorubas we have in Nigeria.
So the protest maybe sponsored from their brothers in Nigeria.

Border remains closed. Talon had just simple task presented to him. Stop smuggling, and dumping of substandard goods in Nigeria and have the border open .

Officially, exports to Nigeria represent 13% of Benin’s total export volume. But according to the World Bank, informal trade between the two countries accounts for 20% of its GDP.

It would be interesting to see how adversely it effects boths countries GDPs. Opinion polls would also be useful. I guessed thst Benin would be hurt more based on the fact Nigeria represents 10%-20% of exports. Nigeria will definitely see food rising inflation but that's norm for years.

The border has to be reopened eventually. Nigeria should just negotiate its terms with them. This policy is harming both countries.

“The current context confirms our determination to develop our economy through industrialisation and transformation. We no longer want to be a country of smugglers,” says a close colleague of the Beninese president.

These guys definitely need to diversify economy. Hitching your wagon to Nigeria isnt it.

Heaven will not fall. Sometimes around 2015/16 that rice jumped to 16k/18k we lament but we still buy.

Let's support Govt on good policies.. Tho it came with few hiccups but it's a policy in good direction

Dear benenois, advice Talon to put your country on olx let's buy it.

Talk about a parasitic country! Once you're a Nigerian , visiting Benin to buy anything , they'll do and say anything they can to fleece you of your money., because it is believed that Nigeria is the well from which they all draw water.

They may perish if our borders remain shut, even with the numerous smuggling routes
