The Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a one-all draw with the Samba Boys of Brazil on Sunday October 13, 2019 in Singapore. It took the effort of Real Madrid midfielder, Casemiro in the early stages of the second half to cancel out Joe Aribo’s goal for Nigeria which came late on in the first half of the match. The South Americans who have gone four games so far without recording a win pilled pressure on the Super Eagles in the closing stages of the game but could not find the back of the net despite Nigeria haven lost Francis Uzoho to an injury.
After the match in Singapore, here are the five talking points that every football analyst is talking about.
JOE ARIBO HAS CEMENTED HIS PLACE IN THE STARTING LINE UP OF THE SUPER EAGLES
After a brilliant performance that saw Aribo scoring on his international debute for Nigeria, he earned another invite from the Super Eagles coach for this crucial friendly match. The Rangers FC man appreciated the confidence imposed on him by the coach with another brilliant performance by giving Nigeria the lead in the first half. Though he was substituted late on in the game, it is most certain that he has earned for himself a first team shirt for the Nigerian senior national team.
NEYMAR IS BECOMING DISPENSABLE
The Paris Saint Germain star got his 100 international caps for the Brazilian National team in their match against Senegal three days ago and started the match against Nigeria. He was a not too impressive game against the Senegalese team and limped off just few minutes after the commencement of the match against Nigeria. This Brazilian team won the Copa America title without Neymar and have been struggling since his return to the team.
WILL ALEX IWOBI GO THE SAME WAY OF KELECHI IHEANACHO?
The Everton midfielder had a very quiet game till he was substituted fo Ramon Azeez late on in the game. In the absence of Etebo, the Indidi, Iwobi and Aribo combined in the midfield with Alex Iwobi appearing as the weaker link. The introduction of Joe Aribo to the national team has added creativity to the midfield of the super Eagles but what will be the fate of Iwobi when Etebo returns to the team? As we know, Wilfred Indidi has been in superb form for the past two seasons and can hardly be dropped presently for anybody in that team. Joe Aribo has brought in what no midfielder has been able to offer to the team for a couple of years now; creativity and goal scoring ability. So obviously, he will always have a first team shirt if he continues to play this way. Etebo has been a workaholic in the Super Eagles midfield since last year’s world cup in Russia and has been an excellent combination with Indidi. Alex Iwobi’s form has continued to diminish since after moving from Arsenal to Everton.
(4)WILL ONOUCHU STILL BE INVITED TO THE SUPER EAGLES?
After an abysmal performance at the Nations Cup in Egypt and a woeful display against Brazil, will the Super Eagles coach maintain his confidence in the striker by inviting him again?
HAVE WE GOTTEN THE TEAM WE CRAVE FOR YET?
After the Super Eagles performance in the last two friendly matches against Ukraine and Brazil respectively, many Nigerians have expressed their satisfaction with the way the team has been playing since finishing third at the African Cup of Nations. Many analysts have even argued that if the Super Eagles had not missed some key players like Etebo, Samuel Kalu and Kenneth Omeruo to injury, Nigeria would have defeated Brazil. But the question is, have we gotten that team that we have long craved for?

Nigeria Brazil duet in my simple way of submission can be described as an oppressive football encounter. The beauty of it for the s.e is getting a spoil of the share out of the game.

Another point to note is super eagles copying the style of play of opponents periodically. One of the reasons lost against Algeria in AFCON2019 is because we started running and playing fast-pace gameplay like the Algerians, and coming to thin Brazil match Nigeria gave it all away when the eagles are mimicking Brazilian dribbling styles.

We also need to improve in our defending tactics, awaziem flank is just too porous.
