Nigeria farmers are wicked and heartless and this border closure will go immediately buhari Regime is over... How can local rice be 17k for 50kg when rice all the away from Asia costs 7 to 8k for 50kg when there was no ban on rice importation...

It's very absurd! I've been taking note that anything locally produced in this country is always more expensive than better and quality items imported.

Ignorance is wickedness. Woe to the ignorant people and government officials that support this ban. I just have to buy rice at a much much higher price just because some of you want to eat local rice only. Something has to be unaffordable to me because of your preferences. Woe to the supporters of famine because the manna falls from heaven and not from their hands. Woe to all of you that block heaven is only you that will die in this hell.

Ignorance and wickedness is when you think buying cheap rice to satisfy your own personal palate is greater than Nigeria and her food security.

All the food sufficient countries all over the world didn't achieve food security without sacrifices or any pain.

Fairtrade is a major issue today, even rich and advanced countries are not taking any chances, they are banning and slamming tariffs on their own friends and allies to protect their own market and local industries.

Nigerians want to have everything, but they are not willing to work for it, sacrifice for it or even fight for it.

Nigeria is the way it is today because Nigerians are the most lawless, unruly and unpatriotic people in the world.

Look at Innoson motors, they want the FG, states and Nigerians to patronize Innoson because local patronage will allow innoson to grow, make more cars with good quality and dominate the local auto market, but when it comes to common rice that they eat every day, their thinking is all of a sudden the other way around, they prefer imported over local rice and Nigerian rice farmers.

All because of dumb and silly politics, tribalism and lack of patriotism.

Imported Asian rice is very stale! It has to be cheaper. Our rice is fresh and more nutritious. With a higher rate of production, the price will come down.

That was what Dangote said when he urged the government to ban the importation of cement. Now look at the price of local made cement

if farmers can sell thier rice and tomatoes for a good price they have no reason to pickup guns and make "abuja or seat of power" insecure

Where did you get the idea that a farmer would pick up arms because he couldn't sell his produce?
I can bet you, those criminals have never been farmers for a day.
Now that we agree that there's gap in rice production that needs to be filled, the right thing for the government to do is to engage and support the unemployed in states with comparative advantage in rice production, instead of trying to establish ruga across the country.
But trust the government to always put the cart before the horse.

In a thread and topic about rice, you were ranting about cocoa so what was smart about that?

And about begging, he did not beg, he asked the farmers not to increase the price of rice, it's a matter of supply and demand, low availability of products means greedy people hide and hoard products to make money.

if you want to buy Nigerian rice buy it. Nobody farms rice because of patriotism but because it is a venture. How can a just government deprive me of choice to compel to support somebody else venture. That is theft and compulsion. Is immoral and Illegal to a certain extent. Go and read about how rice farming was developed in China.
Your ignorance is costly. This type of ignorance that cannot have humility and self-doubt is almost evil. Because is a compulsion of one choice over another when the two can coexist simultaneously. Is too hard not to hate you.

Businesses don't invest solely because of patriotism, but they mostly do because of opportunities and filling voids created because of government policies and programs.

China closed its doors for decades to attain self-sufficiency and they did not get to where they are today without sacrifices, they suffered through hunger, low quality and substandard existence so look for a better and more logical analogy.

Nigeria's food security future is bigger than your unpatriotic spirit and desires for imported rice.

Nigerians should stop complaining. We can't be throwing the teeming youth population into unemployment because of the few businessmen. The Governors should take advantage of this scarcity to engage our youths in farming. Let us raise millionaires that are farmers, let us use homegrown food to solve unemployment, to banish poverty and be a food exporting nation. The Governors should group the Youths into cooperatives, tractors, land, seedlings and other farming materials should be made available to the cooperatives. The farm produce should be bought back by the government while its resale to the public.

1) Nobody goes into business because of patriotism. Everyone in business is there to make money.
2) Closing the borders would encourage hording and smuggling. That's why the CBN Governor was begging...
3) If I can buy rice from Asia, ship it to Nigeria, pay custom and still sell it close to the same as rice produced in Nigeria, then the problem is the high cost of production in Nigeria and not importation.
4) The Cocoa example just shows that that's little value in growing crops, the value is in processing what was produced.

FG orders MDAs to buy made-in-Nigeria vehicles

As FRSC launches 283 new vehicles

Rasheed Bisiriyu

The Federal Government may have directed its Ministries, Departments and Agencies to henceforth patronise local auto assembly plants for their vehicle needs as a way to keep the industry running and improve the nation’s economy.

It is also projected that the gesture will form the plank for generating thousands of jobs.

This indication emerged on Tuesday, a day after President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated 283 locally assembled vehicles purchased by the Federal Road Safety Corps to boost its operations nationwide.

The vehicles, which included patrol cars, rescue buses and tow trucks, were supplied by Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited and Nissan Nigeria, a subsidiary of Stallion Autos.

https://punchng.com/fg-orders-mdas-buy-made-nigeria-vehicles/

The FG actually indirectly banned imported cars, at least in the federal sector.

This is not what Innoson and his wishes, this is about the FG doing what they think it's right for the country in general and the way they see it, they can help innoson and others by leveraging government power and policies to help Innoson and other local car manufacturers.
