Like in the academics, there can not be a valid and reliable research without theoretical framework and basic assumptions, so also in socio-political sphere no opinion is acceptable without basis in some social principles like religious or cultural precepts. He who claims to be a Muslim and is speaking as a Muslim is expectated to hinge kis opinion on Islamic precepts. Doing otherwise makes such a person either an ignorant plagiarist repeating what he heard others talking about or a person whose opinion is never to be taken seriously. Similarly, someone who culture or secular philosophy is his conviction is also expected to build his opinion in consonance with his ideology. No one has an opinion when one has no ideological, cultural, religious or philosophical basis for it.

Nigeria, to be or not to be. As a Muslim I do not venture into a stand as to whether Nigeria should remain or be disbanded without reference to what Nigeria means from Islamic perspective. What I know besides theoretical requirement for basic assumptions, to deviate from the precepts of my Islamic conviction is to render me a non Muslim or a Kafir: He is not a Muslim who holds opinions opposite to Islamic tenents and precepts. This principle holds for all ideologies: a communist is no longer a communist when he advocates the primacy of private ownership over collective ownership; he is not a pacifist when he advocates war, he is not a Hindu when he eats cow, he is not christian when he believes in Muhammad etc I therefore speak as a Muslim.

As far as Islam is concerned, the Igbo, or any other tribe for that matter, are free to decide to stay in Nigeria or opt out. No real muslim , except those who hold different unislamic view, which makes them non Muslims, has any right to hinder any tribe or people from disassociating with Nigeria. Right to control other people is acquired in Islam in two ways only. The right of conquest and the right of pact. When Muslims conquer a certain people in a LEGITIMATE WAR, then the right to control such people is acquired Islamically. On the second point, pact means agreement. When a people voluntarily agree to come under muslim control, such right is acquired and could be protected unless the muslims broke the terms of the agreement which made the agreed control lapse.

Now which of the two conditions applies in Nigeria that gives any Muslim who respects the precepts of his religion, the right to oppose the secession of any people from Nigeria? Did we Muslims legitimately ( or even illegitimately) conquered the Biafrans? Did our respective legitimate representatives sat and agreed voluntarily and willingly without compulsion to form a political unit called Nigeria to last forever?

If you don't know who you are, keep your baseless answer to yourself. This is for christians who speak from the christian perspectives, for Muslims who speak from Islamic perspective, for secularists who speak from secular perspectives and not for Muslims or Christians who speak from secular perspectives, confused bats.

You have stated this experience as a fellow of Culture, Tradition, and Religion. Please let us examine the position of a Professional like a Doctor, Accountant, Lawyer or The Military. There's something autocratic in Military supervisory interaction in Government, which we all must sit to consider if our objective for Nigeria is for growth, Unity and Progress. The Soldier likes to control, particularly when dealing with Civilians. OBJ categorically made this known when he said that an RSM, The So called Regimental Sergeant Major can Rule a Nation better than a Professor in any other Discipline than The Military. The Decree 1979, which is now the 1999 Constitution says much of the Direction our Military wish to lead us. Give a Soldier a Squadron, any dissenting views from his that is not empirically supported will be regarded as Mutiny. Buhari is so much a Military General. And so, he can never understand the Advantages and the Unity Strength of releasing full autonomy of Police, Resources and Elections Control to our 36 Constitutional States.
