Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara state said his government would soon enact a capital punishment law against the desecration of the holy Qur’an in the state.

The Governor made this known while receiving a report from the committee for the review of activities of the State Ministry of Religious Affairs, religious Commissions and committees under the leadership of the former State Deputy Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad.

Matawalle said he had remained sad with the way some people perpetrate the unholy act of desecration of the holy Qur’an in the state.

He explained that to bring an end to the unholy act, his government would soon enact capital punishment laws in the State that would deal with all related offences.

He added that Shariah court judges would also be under careful watch in the way and manner they handled such cases as serious punitive measures would be applied on any erring judge for the purpose of discipline as no amount of punishment would be too severe on such judges or the offenders.

Matawalle also appealed to Islamic scholars in the state to sensitize people on the importance of peace, unity and love for one another for the purpose of having a purified society that is free from all crimes.

Matawalle also reminded people of the State on the importance of repenting from such sins and return to Almighty Allah.

Earlier, the Chairman of the committee Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Called for the renaming of the State Ulama Consultative Council (UCC) to Zamfara State Fatwah Council with a chairman that would be called Mufti of the State.

He also said there was need for the government to review the existing laws where competent Ulamas who are knowledgeable in Islamic jurisprudence, reputable and upright in character with adequate exposure on contemporary issues to serve as members of the Mufti Council.

Wakkala committee also advised the government to continue with its laudable policies of economic growth, poverty alleviation and fight against insecurity for greater success and acceptability in the state.

The presentation of the report was attended by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, Head of Service, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, Honourary Adviser to the Governor, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda and Permanent Secretary Government House Alhaji Lawali Ibrahim Kaura among others.

But no death penalty for looters of public funds? Is the Koran more important than the people of the state? The Koran is just a book, nothing more.

Let's reason this together. No offense.

If the Koran was burnt, what will happen? Will people die? Will the heavens fall to the ground? Will the earth turn to ashes?

What will happen?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

On the other hand, if your governor loots the entire money in the treasury of the state, what will happen?

People will die of hunger for sure.

So, in your opinion, which one deserves a death penalty?

We really have nothing in common with these people...
94 million people live in abject poverty in Nigeria and I'm wondering how this law will benefit the poorest in Zamfara.

So the mere Quran book is more important than the human life? And burning or trashing one attract capital punishment. While senseless stealing and looting of our common patrimony by you politicians will amount to a pat on the back.

The paradox is, the same governor who proposes death sentence for the desecration of the Qur'an grants amnesty to bandits that have taken thousands of human life.

Just sad

Others want to burn a book(paper) with Arabic inscriptions on it; why can't they do that? You muslims, like the religion's central figure, cannot co-exist in a modern society.

He is doing it for politics. Bubu did same when he said he will continue to advocate the spreading of sharia law over Nigeria in 2001. He also said attack on Bokoharam is anti-North and that made him extremely popular. In the North, if you're a fanatic, your popularity increases. Had it been muric guy is a northerner, he would have had massive cult like following! This governor does not believe in Islam doctrines per se but trying to profit from religious fanaticism undecided

the God of Islam appears to be the only wicked God still in existence.

He seems to be too interested in punishing than blessing people. Everything in Islam is haram punishable by death

And since he appears to be too weak to get anything done himself, you his half-educated followers have taken it upon your unintelligent selves to fight his battles for him.

Islam needs an overhaul

Hausa Muslims don't read Qur'an they are just taking advantage of it. The Qur'an is only useful for politics after that they don't read it ask them well. If they read it we won't have looters and killers in Nigeria.

Until you establish an Islamic country for yourselves that isn't Nigeria, I have every right to query what your governor is doing in Zamfara state cause I'm a Nigerian.

Last I checked, Nigeria isn't an Islamic nation. Killing people because they burnt some book which has been replicated a billion times doesn't make sense to anyone with common sense.

Don't you think so?
