My only issue with Zik is that a widely-travelled and intelligent man like him should have had an idea of the nature, character and values of the people he was lumping together with his! It should have been obvious to him that we’re just not compatible together!

You are talking about Zik, when Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB group are repeating the exact same mistakes by adding minority groups In SS that Ndiigbo share nothing whatsoever with, into Biafra.
That these groups share great resentment for us is no secret, but IPOB will not listen.

When do we stop blaming Zik and start working to prevent the future disaster IPOB are trying to create for unborn Igbo generations by lumping us together with hundreds of minority groups in SS that we share not much other than boundaries in common with?

Don't future Igbo generations deserve a homogeneous Igbo/Igboid country they can finally be free to express their God given talents without anyone shouting "IGBO DOMINATION" ?

How come we don't see parallel between Nnamdi Kanu heterogeneous Biafra and Zik Heterogeneous Nigeria? Are we going to sell a dog to buy a monkey? Don't you see we would still have a squatting animal in our house?

True dat!

But then it was better managed and wasn’t so noticeable and destructive as all the regions had a appreciable level of independence from one another!

It’s more noticeable and more destructive now b’cos of the unitary system of gov’t we operate, and the strong, omnipresent federal gov’t that controls pretty much everything!
better managed? Seems to you that a pogrom and a civil war that cost about three million lives is the result of a better management. You haven't heard about western region riot, deadly kano riots, tiv massacre etc all took place in the regional system. seems you don't know there was already scramble to fill the lower level of the military with northerners by the Fulani's before the coup.

FYI, where there is strong tribalism like Nigeria, there must be mutual suspicion and mistrust. These vices must express themselves notwithstanding the political structure. While regionalism can hasten development in Nigeria, it is more capable of triggering a wide scale conflict that will roll the development 50 yrs back. Separation is the best option.

It was all good until the black man seek independence
what is your point?
that the blackman isn't capable of ruling themselves?
is it the whitemen that established obaship and ezeship?
where power was truly devolved especially in the ezeship.
the colonial people dreaded awolowo then because THEY BELIEVED HE IS CAPABLE OF RULING THE UK AS AT THAT TIME.
it was awolowo's radical vision that transformed the south.
awolowo would implement one nice policy,we the eastern region would copy it and implement it.
we were competing healthily.
the western region implemented farm settlements scheme whereby young school leaders are attached to farmers as apprentice and when they are certified ok,they would be given a portion to farm.
we in the east copied and did our own.
with ada palm in imo state and farm settlements scheme in igboariam in anambra.
the western region brought Volkswagen plant
we in the east brought annamco, Mercedes in enugu.
i can go on and on.
the British were watching.
the British never wanted any African nation to progress so they were looking for a way to make the backward north to be in control.
so zik and tafawa started trying to scuttle the western region by bringing up a useful id.ot in the person of Samuel ladoke akintola to cause trouble in the western region which he succeeded in doing and the fg having been waiting for an opportunity pounced on awolowo and co and straight into prison.
then patriotic soldiers struck.
the opportunity the British were waiting for,the greatest opportunities comes during chaos.
the British seized the opportunity to support the north to assert themselves over the rest of Nigeria.
gowon created 12 states 6 in the north,3 to the west and 3 to the east.
but the irony of it is that the west still supported the enthronement of hegemony at that moment.

If only zik had insisted on an independent Eastern Region...his family may be the ruling family now in what would have been Africa's richest country
you think zik and awolowo wanted this fraud?awolowo was threatened into one Nigeria while zik was blackmailed into one Nigeria because of a loan he took from ACB African continental bank, today UBA,he did not follow due process so he stood risk of imprisonment and he felt a man of his stature is not supposed to go to prison.
the north also refused independence while the British insisted that the three parties must agree to have independence before independence would be granted.
then sardauna stated his conditions which is 50% majority in the federal house, zik being blackmailed agreed and convinced awolowo to accept.
that was the beginning of the end for Nigeria

you know azikiwe with his typical Igbo greedy skull thought he was smart and was playing a funny game led every leader to say what they said. Even Balewa described the new country as a mistake all because of Azikiwe games.

Azikiwe and Ironsi are the reason we are all here today.
so armadu bello is a saint.
this wickedness personified was working with the British when Anthony enahoro, zik and awolowo were tirelessly working for independence.
when Anthony enahoro moved motion for independence, armadu bello used his influence to cause riots that the north doesn't want independence.
zik and awolowo begged the monster but he would only accept under one condition which i believed the British advised him to say.
which is that he would only support independence if the north would have 50% majority in the federal house.
zik being blackmailed agreed and convinced awolowo to accept.
Anthony enahoro moved motion for independence in 1954 but the north were footdragging, this is why Ghana got independence before Nigeria.

A handful of places where Europeans (precisely, the British) worked and shopped does NOT make a city...

Most of the rest of the indigenous population lived in slum-like settlement and largely in filth, lacking in basic amenities.

The truth is that settlements in Nigeria pre-colonial and colonial era were neater than what obtains today. You can blame that on population surge or just our lack of organization as a country as well as the dearth of values.

Zik, awo, tafawa et al are the cause of our problems today. They got independence at the time we were not ready as a state to be autonomous. That error seem the biggest political mistake made by mankind and injustice to the then unborn generations.
Now see where we find ourselves because of poor timing and greed for power by some few.
