Attempts by three armed men to kill the district head of Bolori, Alhaji Mohammed Mala in Maiduguri metropolis on Sunday night was aborted by the combined efforts of residents and soldiers around the area even as one of the assailants believed to be Boko Haram member was arrested.

Daily Sun gathered that the three armed men suspected to be of Boko Haram sect had invaded the house of the district head at Bolori area at about 9.30 pm but their attempts to shoot the traditional ruler was reportedly resisted by the people around and the man. Two of the assailants reportedly fled while one was apprehended.

Brigade Commander of the 21 Armored Brigade, Maiduguri, Brig. Gen. Hassan Ndalima, who paraded the suspect told journalists on Monday that the suspect was one of the gunmen killing people in the state. “We’ve arrested one of the people going around the state killing innocent citizens,” he disclosed.

Ndalima said he received a call from the Shehu of Borno that the gunmen had invaded the house of the district head. “I personally went there and learnt that the suspect who identified himself as Abdullahi was to fire a shot on the traditional ruler. Interestingly, the district head immediately punched on him and that was how the AK 47 rifle he carried was seized from him and he was arrested,” the brigade commander explained.

He said the army had commenced investigation on the operations of the gunmen who had been terrorizing the state since early July, adding that the sources of their weaponry would be discovered in the course of their investigations. He also assured that the security agencies in the state were making efforts to see that the lives and property of the people were guaranteed.

The army boss who was also joined at the event by other security chiefs including the police and state security services (SSS) appealed to the people to be patient with the security agencies, noting that their efforts had started to yield result by the arrest of one of the assailants.
The thirty two-year-old suspect, Abdullahi, claimed to have been drafted from Lagos to prosecute the operation even as military authorities urged journalists to discountenance with his claim, insisting that their investigation would shed light into his background and other related matter on the armed men.
