Someone is asking for job prospects for someone studying sociology, and they are all here mentioning president and other elective offices. Are elective positions job prospects for any course of study?

A high number of Nigerians are intellectually deficient and yet they have the mind to call Buhari a dullarrd.

@lajid, many sociology jobs demand master's degrees. But it doesn't mean that there are no job prospects for sociology graduates with only a Bsc. If she remains in Nigeria, well, you know she would be able to work in many sectors because sociology encompasses a lot of disciplines that study society.

So, she can work as a public relations specialist; she can work in law enforcement and regulatory agencies like the police, EFCC, ICPC, NAFDAC, and so on. She can also teach.

In short, a sociology degree can prepare you for roles where you deal with humans, roles such as market research analysis, policy analysis, social works, media planning, and so on.

As per the Nigerian situation, you will however have to factor in the connection factor. Long gone are the days of meritocracy. Now, it is the period of man know man

Mass communications is not anything better than Sociology. It all depends on your sister.

Sociologists are social engineers. They quest for social reformation. Truth be told, it can be difficult for a sociologist, who doesn't know the why and what to succeed with the course. Such a person will only lament all his life, complaining about nothing.

I'm a sociologist myself. And my course mates and I have accomplished a lot of great things you would see with those people with supposedly great courses.

The secret is to start early. If you have the resources, invest in professional courses, especially IT-inclined. Just open your mind, face your study and pray too.

Remember, unemployment is a social phenomenon, and it has nothing to do with studying sociology or some seemingly fantastic courses. Of course, there are thousands of law and engineering graduates out there trying hard to make ends meet.

With the level of competition in Nigeria over job, thousands of graduate year in and out. It is only fair to give yourself a little edge and study what is in demand. There is no demand for sociologist in Nigeria

Get the knowledge first, does it even matter in this kind of society of ours?

What can she even do with masscom? In Nigeria, what you you studied in school doesn't even count anymore. Just grab the right skills and have good connection that's all.

My sincere reply. The course is not what determines where you reach in life but yourself. Sociology is a great course. You can be a consultant, you can work for any welfare organization, UN, OAU, Police, Army, any other security organisattion.
You can also sell your expertise to the whole world.
There are many sites abroad that you may sell your skills. Your skill is also needed in schools all over the world. I am not saying you cannot go for a second degree, or change if you want.
You have no limitation to what you can do.

Sociology in simple terms is defined as the scientific study of Group and the Society.
The study of sociology is vast.
Its subfield are much, its covers almost all aspect of the society and as such gives one the advantage to work in any organisation base on it vast aspect of the society its covers in discipline.

medical sociology
work and occupation

security agencies
banker
lecturer
administrator
social and political analyst
actor, actress

Sociology is a very intresting course and best because of its vast discipline.

Sociology is a vast area,you fit be statistician, or focus on demography (all this census people),social work (this one is hot cake outside the country),public relations specialist, data research analyst,human resources,guidance counselling,international aid development worker(UNICEF,UNO) etc

Note-in Nigeria with your sociology degree you can be a lawyer, work in a bank,accountant and even a doctor.

Law schools in America and many other developed countries accept graduates from relevant disciplines like psychology and sociology.

But in Nigeria, our law school only accepts graduates of law.
