Police nab 2 suspected MEND members over attack on NDDC motor park
News Nov 11, 2010

By Samuel Oyadongha
YENAGOA — The police in Bayelsa State have nabbed two persons suspected to be members of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, for attempting to blow up the NDDC motor park in Yenagoa with dynamite.

Vanguard learnt that the suspects identified as Ibisiki Isele and Joseph Obah aged between 23 and 25 were arrested last Thursday at about 10:00 p.m. while on an alleged revenge mission at the NDDC motor park.

However, a third member of the group simply identified as Kingdom is said to be on the run.

One of the suspects, Isele, an indigene of Nembe, had his right arm shattered while fiddling with the explosive and is now receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre under the watchful eyes of security operatives.

Trouble, it was learnt, started last Tuesday when the supposed MEND members allegedly pushed a Toyota Corolla car to the motor park to be parked there, a move said to have been resisted by officials of the park.

The suspicious NDDC park officials were said to have warned the suspects to remove the vehicle and deflated the tyres the following day which led to a scuffle.

Angered by the action of the park officials, the suspects were said to have embarked on revenge mission Thursday night to bomb the park with a view to instilling fear in the workers.

It was learnt that while one of the suspects was fiddling with the dynamite behind the fence of the motor park that it exploded and chopped off the wrist of his right hand.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, confirmed that one of the suspects, Ibisiki Isele, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, got injured while attempting to detonate the explosive.

Isele in a confessional statement, according to the Commissioner of Police, said the dynamite exploded while the suspect was fiddling with it at the back of the motor park.
Speaking to the newsmen on his hospital bed, Isele claimed to be on a revenge mission; having been allegedly assaulted by the workers at the popular Ekeki Motor Park.
